Bold and weighty but not grossly heavy or too sweet. The smoky, oaky, coffee bean note overpowered some of the fruit according to some people in our tasting group but I think once it breaths a bit this settles nicely into a rich example of a CA merlot.

Whoa, this is gnarly. Nose has a funkiness to it that I do not remember the last time I had this vintage. It's brown sugar, burnt cacao, baking spice, wet tobacco. There's some fruit trying to shine through, but it's being engulfed by all this other stuff going on.
Full bodied, decadent. Fudge and dark, stewed dark fruit with this beautiful mineral note that stands out. This has turned into a savory, rich wine that is blowing my mind right now.

A nose of dark fruits and some spices, dark garnet in color. A medium to full bodied red, with blackberry, cassis, cocoa, and spices on finish. Needs a decant. www.winelx.com

A good merlot that drinks well with or without food. Somewhat dense and rich upfront. There is decent backbone of tannin and acidity to carry the richness. Was best the first hour or two. Started to close down a bit after that and developed some bitterness. Probably 92 points early on.

Medium nose shows nutmeg, black fruit, red plum, light spice, herbal note, peppercorn. Palate gives rich fruit, spice continues in a sweet way, sage, plums again, smooth medium tannins. Nice example of Merlot that is affordable and will appeal to people more than they realize.

Dark and Inky, Lots of Dark Fruit, Cherry, Cassis, and Plum. Plenty of Oak with some Spice notes. Heavy on the tannins showing that it should lay down nicely for the future.

A delicious merlot that I drank with a steak! Daou hits another one out of the park.

Rich in fruit with tannins fading quickly after opening. It needs food to complement it.
