Deep garnet color with just a touch of brick; medium bodied, rather light on the mid-palate, tannins mostly resolved, short finish. Pleasant enough. Probably best now. Good food wine.

Three years since I tried one. If is holding fine and improved slightly. Still with a deep red color, I continue to think I'm getting a little brett on the nose. Palate is nice, smooth tannins, dark fruits, acidity, short finish. Enjoyable on a school night.

Served with grilled lamb chops and pearl couscous with garlic and peas. Popped and poured. Best showing yet. Improving with age and opened up through the meal so there's more to come. Soft tannins, good dark fruit, very faint cedar. A great buy but only one bottle left out of the case.

This wine improved in the bottle over a couple hours. At first rather tannic, flavors of pencil lead, cedar and a overripe fruit, it also had a disagreeable sour aftertaste. Over time it softened and evolved, with sweeter fruit and better flavor balance. Still, seems deep into its drinking window.

Continues to be a good value QPR and I don't think it has hit its peak yet. Not the most sophisticated wine in the world. I think this probably drinks more like a California meritage instead of a Bordeaux. Nice fruit with the raspberry and sour cherry elements taking over the earlier black fruits. There is now a bit of a tea element on the back end.

One of the best QPR wine I've had in recent memory. A nice representation of how good an "everyday" Bordeaux can be. Nice moderate fruitiness offset by plenty of earthy brawny tannins, you can't go wrong with this wine with traditional French foods or steaks. Doubt it will improve much beyong the next two years.

Medium ruby color clear to the rim. Nose of blackberry and underbrush. Still a little tannic and astringent, though there is ripe black and red fruit behind that. Will give this another year to see which wins out, the fruit or the tannins. 86 for now.

A little unfair because I'm drinking this after an 05 Drinkward Pichon. On the minus side seems a little thin with a bit of a green streak I've never tasted before. Actually, the fruit is not bad and tanins are fine--should last a while. I seem to have lost the sense of smell so I can't comment on nose. On the plus side, second bottle of the night so it's impossible to be bad. This was rated by the WSJ as a cheap '05 BDX value. I think they got it right and it is much better than another one of their picks, the 05 Au Grande Paris,

This is a very nice wine, that took 20-30mins to really open. Initially the nose was ripe with jammy raspberry, this continued for the duration. Flavors started a bit disjointed and green, then as it took air it showed its fruit and balance. This is a food wine for sure, perfect balance with Strip steaks. Very ripe fruit with some nice soft oak influence. Recommended, a great QPR, it needs some time to breath...AMM

Upon opening, this had pronounced structure and dark tannins and not much fruit. After a couple of hours, the dark bramble fruit is more prominent, and the tannins more subdued and rounded. This would have benefited from decanting. Moderate size and length, and the tannins will probably outlast the fruit. I plan to drink my remaining bottles over the next year or two.

This wine has evolved into something very elegant with a few years in the cellar. Popped one to toast John Brecher and Dottie Gaiter after NewsCorp presumably cut their column in the WSJ, and was glad I did. I'd strongly urge to drink any remaining bottles soon, the fruit is almost gone already, and I don't taste much underlying acidity which could keep it alive longer. In the current state I found it very unique.

Great mix of red and black fruit aromas with strong notes of chocolate and vanilla. Also some green tea. Needs time to open. Starts off with astringent tannins but they soften a little with time. Cedar, blackberry and cherry and leaves on the palate. The finish is a little on the short side. I wish I had a few more bottles.

This wine has closed down since last tasting it 6 months ago. The tannins are still there but the fruit is missing. Needs time to breath, but even after 2 hours....little fruit. This was a very nice bottle of wine, especially for the price. I received it as a gift and didn't know anything about it until I did some digging on CT. Showed great Bordeaux style with the cab sauv creating firm frame and tannins, and the merlot filling out the palate with soft fruit.

Nice color - richer and darker purple than you would expect for a Bordeaux in this price range. On the nose, pine forest floor dominates but a little fruit there as well. Decent texture and richness but a bit hollow - very dry and really not a lot of fruit on the palate, hint of licorice. A food wine to be sure.

Decided to "pop n pour" this one. Decent. Not a big wine, but fairly well balanced. It did not change very much over the course of an hour or so. I do not think that extended (or much more) aging will change this wine very much. It is what is, a decent entry level Bordeaux.

2 startling things up front: (1) The color was much darker & richer than I thought -- really pretty in the glass. (2) HUGE, very alluring nose -- almost reminiscent of a solid Napa cab, which was surprising. Honest to god, must have sniffed this thing for 5 minutes before drinking!
This bottle was good, but a slight letdown. It was very silky, but tasted as though it did not have much left -- especially for a young BDX. I was tasting one of my last bottles to see if I should stock up on these and put some away, and decided not to -- I don't think it will hold up in the cellar.

Thursday Bordeaux Tasting (John's Marketplace, Portland, OR): From the WSJ article, I was expecting a lot more than what I got. While this wine had great blackberry fruit, a nice earthy component, and balanced acidity, it didn't have the kind of structure I was expecting. Very firm tannins as well. This could age nicely for 5-10 years.

Lots of fruit on the nose. The aromas are like hot blackberry pie, with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream. A very balanced, round drinkable wine with medium tannin and acidity. A little green. Not a lot of complexity, but tasty. I could drink it every night. Really benefits from 2 hours decanting.

Standard, run of the mill budget bordeaux. Herbal and green edge, not enjoyable to me. Not far from being good, but I don't get why WSJ raved about this - I'll assume bottle variation. Nonetheless, they lose cred with me. Not a rebuy, even at under $15.

91+ This wine probably should have scored better, but it's so young. Left open (not decanted) for about 30mins before drinking. Not much of a nose. Wine was built up in my mind by salesperson and favorable WSJ article. Decanted for a few hours and alcohol on the nose was astringent masking flavors. Very dark in color, dark berry fruit and earth with some bitterness. On second night tannins on end were nearly non-existant and alcohol nose had worn off. The wine is very drinkable but not as good as I had anticipated. Perhaps I'll pick up another bottle to open in a few years.

Excellent Bord Sup from '05. Obviously, not a big wine, but very well-balanced. Reasonable fruit and tannins. Although still enjoyable on Day 2, the fruit had faded a bit. This is just another example of how deep this vintage is.

I paid $9.50 for this wine. This wine is usually a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot. Aged for 2 years in barrel. Vinification is fairly natural without any chemicals added other than sulpher. Reddish black color. Medium to full bodied but without overpowering tannins. More balanced than many of the other 2005 introductory Bordeaux I've had. Smooth red fruit and plum notes. Modest finish. 86 points.

Lighter and drinkable. No need to keep any of these around if you have them. Drink them now and enjoy.

Standard, run of the mill budget bordeaux. Herbal and green edge, not enjoyable to me. Not far from being good, but I don't get why WSJ raved about this - I'll assume bottle variation. Nonetheless, they lose cred with me. Not a rebuy, even at under $15.

mouth: smooth, could age another year or two for best balance, slighty watery and a quick finish for the downsides, but overwhelming QPR, great fruit flavors and excellent initial balance

Definitely needs some time in the decanter. Funky nose, not very enjoyable on first night. After a night in the fridge it opened up a bit, but it was still a thin wine, and the funky nose didn't completely go away.

91+ This wine probably should have scored better, but it's so young. Left open (not decanted) for about 30mins before drinking. Not much of a nose. Wonderful dark fruits and spice that is well integrated. Good structure and tannins but easy drinking. I'm going to look for more. Drink over the next 5 years...Recommended...AMM

Perhaps I'll pick up another bottle to open in a few years.

nice fruitnose and subtle fruit forward to start, then dry berry flavors, with short finish. Deep dark color, nice mouthfeel. Pleasant everyday drinker with meals, nothing special.

Not bad for the price. Nice bouquet, deep dark color, but overall a thin wine that does not improve as it opens up. A disappointment, but I'll cellar what I have left of this and see if it improves with age.

Again with the ridiculously dark color. Spicy (anise?) nose, medium bodied with light, light tannins and dark berry flavors. Rounded and smooth with good acidity to pair with food. A perfect every day drinker

Very dark in color. Well balanced. Strong cab influence. Could use a little more time but fine now, particularly on the second day.

Popped & Poured. Nose was a little muted for me, maybe if I had let it breath for a while I would have gotten more. Flavor was superb, cedar, spice, ripe red fruit. I'm looking forward to enjoying this as it ages. Probably will buy more, if I can find it. Drink over the next 3-5 years easy. Great QPR. Recommended...AMM

Nice ruby color. Cassis, plum, toast and black tea on the nose. Nice balance between the acids and tannin. This is approachable now but will hold up for a few more years.

Concentrated tea and toast on the nose. Some fine tannins on the palate but , my what a juicy mouthfeel now! Whooo hooo I'm getting more now! I just wanted to keep sniffing and not even drink!

86 points.
