  • Birth year wine for wife’s quarantine Birthday. Auction bottle, reputable company. Into neck. Very moldy under the foil. Cork is still sound but fully soaked. Color is ruby with only medium bricking. Nose is powerful. Plum, fennel, thyme, leather. This is still fresh, yet fully mature. There is still tannin! This is quite amazing. This evolved in the glass/bottle. It picked up more nutty and mushroom notes throughout the night, but the core of plum fruit remained. Really happy about how this turned out.

  • So I bought this out of curiosity from the bargain bin at the wine shop for $15. It was mid shoulder filled and had a soft cork under the foil. When I removed the foil, there was some crunchy old mold on top of the cork and bottle. I decanted it and was surprised by the nose's delicate floral notes. There was a good teaspoon of solids left in the bottle and a quarter teaspoon in the decanter. I poured a glass and was surprised by the face that it was drinkable at all. There was a little strawberry and hay flavor, but not much fruit. The color was brownish-purple. I couldn't drink a whole glass, but it wasn't awful.
