Nose is powerful. Plum, fennel, thyme, leather. This is still fresh, yet fully mature. There is still tannin! This is quite amazing. This evolved in the glass/bottle. It picked up more nutty and mushroom notes throughout the night, but the core of plum fruit remained. Really happy about how this turned out.
So I bought this out of curiosity from the bargain bin at the wine shop for $15. It was mid shoulder filled and had a soft cork under the foil. When I removed the foil, there was some crunchy old mold on top of the cork and bottle. I decanted it and was surprised by the nose's delicate floral notes. There was a good teaspoon of solids left in the bottle and a quarter teaspoon in the decanter. I poured a glass and was surprised by the face that it was drinkable at all. There was a little strawberry and hay flavor, but not much fruit. The color was brownish-purple. I couldn't drink a whole glass, but it wasn't awful.
