The mighty VVF was on my wishlist for a long long time and does not disappoint! Slightly oxidative but I think only in style and still super fresh on the palate. The energy in the wine is really impressive, and unfold all sorts of ripe fruit on the palate. Really enjoyed it!

OWC. Incredibly fresh with barely any oxidative sign. Strength and elegance in one seamless sip, vintage ripeness throughout, so long and so large beneath the still tight nectar. 94-95

Gevery Luncheon (Manhatta): From DJCV. A lovely wine of amazing tension and energy. Extremely fresh and youthful lacking the characteristic house oxidative marks.
This wine was tightly wound and improved substantially with air. One of the wines of the lunch and will certainly improve with age.

Papies at 30 (The Waterside Inn): The sommelier at The Waterside Inn pushed hard for this ( indeed the price was retail value ) and that they had one recently and it was exceptional. We generally worry with Bollinger wines and longevity but this is not an ordinary wine and given the provenance this was in another dimension. We think the reaction of our friend who upon arriving late was thrusted a glass and was still in the midst of settling down smelled this and went " wow " and then look up to us in a stage of amazement as if to say what have we got here! :) And indeed has that effect , impressively bright even though it is well aged and mature, balanced and effortless wine with a soft mousse and a sublime palate feel. Pointless to say more. An exceptional wine and an easy 97+

Giacosa weekend - lunch at Masseria (Masseria, DC): Rich deeply toned complex nose displaying opulent yellow fruit, dry peach, dry apricot, red currant, apple, cinnamon, biscotti, white pepper and limestone. Excellent concentration, beautifully layered sweet yellow fruit, very fine generous mousse, perfect amount of acidity and mineral and a long sweet yellow fruit driven finish with cinnamon and white pepper at the end. Drinking beautifully, at the peak. Not sure about being perfect but so darn sumptuous.

Bright fresh nose that has clean red apple fruit and a raspberry spritz. Toasty vanilla. Layers of nuance and texture on the palate. Complex and intricate. Surprised by how oaky this was, but there are many dimensions to appreciate here. Nice cream with citrus too. Generally dislike '99 as a Champagne vintage, but this is a different story. First time with a VVF and it was fantastic.

Leiden dinner December 2016: Creamy nose, dried fruit, baked bread. Taste is very special, starts with rich flavours, followed by dark chocolate that coat the entire mouth. The richness and chocolate linger on in the mouth for minutes. Very special, have not experienced anything like this before. Very fine - very special.

Fruktig svær nese. Tiltalende. Stor konsentrasjon men er litt hul i midtpartiet (vi snakker småplukk). Tynner seg litt ut i finish, og den som minner minst om en VVF. Men herregud, det rocker alikevel!

Pretty closed at 1st, pale yellow color, took over an hour to open up, with slight baked apple notes, very fine bubbles, slight mocha/coffee, everything appeared in a more subtle and rounded way with medium plus palate that the layers are more in 1 space rather than clearly delineated. Very persistent bubbles over the course of 4 hours, very fine but heritage is much bigger than the wine itself.

KYD #1.2: The nose is very impressive and with green apples and freshly baked bread. It is hugely intense and has a very fresh profile that also has a nice complexity. Some exotic notes like peach and just a hint of smoke. Broad shouldered palate with a full bodied intensity but still with a touch of refined elegance. Flavors are mostly red apples with a touch of brioche but also with a hint of white flowers. Great balance and the intensity is amazing.

Served in standard glasses rather than flutes, hence not notably bubbly. Young yet accessible, yeast and toast, rich with black fruit and the impossible length that comes of ancient, pre-phylloxera vines. Not the best vintage of this rare wine, but will keep and improve for some time.

PNP into Riedel Burgundy glass (“Leaf” day): Medium orange golden to the eyes.
Mature juicy apricots, airy orchard fruits like pears. Some natural chenin like bruised apples notes. Nutty and yeasty notes.
Mellowly textured and very enjoyable now. Good dose of dosage too. Very nicely rich indeed.
94-95 points.

A Few of My Favorite Things !! (@ Oegstgeest - the Netherlands): Deep, soft, creamy nose, with delicious dried-fruit and truffle. Rich, velvet smooth on the palate, without any hint of heaviness. Beautifully, complete and very long!

Pretasting with a small Salon and VVF vertical Tasting (Elystan Street, London): completely different to 1998, fresher, more biscuit notes, more winey and accessible than 98. good balance maybe a hint too sweet, at his peak, won't get much better

Very smooth and aromatic - tones of peach/apricot. Not very bubbly, though cork was fine. Drank well the following day.
