Ready to drink now. Red/sour cherry, blood orange, smoke/leather, some oak. Aromas of underbrush and garrigue. Discrete, velvety tannins balance a mellow acidity + overall structure. A touch sweet. Med-short finish. Delicious and easy.

Walkaround tasting so just short notes: Beautiful and complex bouquet with forest impressions. On the palate dark berries, earth and a slght dose of oak, beautiful acidity and tannin. Really nice wine. Wait another 4 - 5+ years. 93+

Dark Ruby core with a tinge of crimson on the rim. Plums, blackberries, dark fruit on the nose with hints of graphite. Rich cloying mouthfeel, again with dark fruit predominating. Some tobacco smoke in the background. Fine tannins - the alcohol is well integrated. Long sweet finish. Powerful but well balanced.

Tasted during our visit this week at Il Poggione. The bottle had been opened in the morning and we tasted mid afternoon. Wine is dark ruby in color with a super expressive nose of leather, tobacco, dark red fruit and spice. I would have guessed an older Brunello based on just the nose. It's very deep and expansive at first sip with layors of darker red fruit, spice and herbs. It has lively acidity and firm but balanced tannin. The finish is extremely long and pure. This is one 2018 that should be left alone for 5 years. Many of the wines we've tried this trip are either early drinkers or have very fine tannin and showing really well. This is excellent now but has the potential to develop nicely. The extended aeration I believe really helped. There is no riserva in 18 as it all went into the straight Brunello. If you want to try now open at least 4 hours before serving. This is also an incredible value at 40E. This was the wine of the trip for me slightly edging the Baricci with Fuligni and Le Ragnaie right behind them.

Spicy on the palate, the juice lacks definition in my opinion, with aromas of tobacco and leather. Good balance, but too “standard” for my taste. Woody finish.
Good, but nothing more, it lacks style, it's anonymous enough to appeal to the greatest number I feel.

2023 Montalcino trip, wine tasting at Enoteca di Piazza. Brown/purple color, medium fruit nose. First Brunello taste freshly fruits - big cherries, currants, sharp and dry and into a earthy finish peppers and tobacco. Medium linger almost cheek puckering. Young, but surprising good Brunello body of an older wine which should age well.

This pours medium ruby in the glass. The nose is complex, highly aromatic, and very tuscan sangovese. Aromas blast leather, rosemary, shoe polish, dry hay, wet soil, cherry pipe tobacco, fresh cherries, chstnut, crushed gravel, light VA, and faint rubbery reduction. The palate is impeccably balanced showing gorgeous cherry fruit on entry turning to medium plus tannin and medium plus acid. The finish lingers nicely replaying much of the nose. All in all I'm blown away from this showing from Il Poggione. I drink a lot from this producer, but in my view this is the best bottle I've had since the excellent 2010. I had the opportunity to taste through several other 2018 Brunellos in this context, and this stood out as having the most aromatic complexity so I devoted some time to unpacking it in detail. What a lovely bottle and one to watch out for when released.

Tasted at Benvenuto Brunello NYC. I keep trying to see what the reviewers like in this wine but always come up bewildered. Medium to dark garnet. Nose is very oaky with alcohol and VA showing prominently. There is some cherry fruit under all the oak notes but this seems unbalanced to me. Long on the finish but not terribly attractive. I just don't get it... Get rid of the oak and maybe there is something attractive underneath.

Sweet bramble and strong red cherry, plum, and blood orange character. Really soft and discrete tannins. Really good to drink now.

Dense and rich, but it still needs more time.

Medium bricky red. Scents of crerries and syrup. Rose water and ripe nectarine. Nice tannins and good balance. Good brunello and it delivers.

Italy walkabout tasting, no detailed tasting notes. Dark fruit, compact, dense, good structure that needs a bit of time still.
