Decanted off 2oz sediment. Light-med ruby, clear; aromatic, roses, tar, high toned red cherry, a bit of clove and spice; palate is light bodied, high tannin which are a bit grainy, high acidity, balanced medium-high alcohol (14%), red fruited; medium finish. Youthful for its age, balanced and with good depth, excellent value for Barolo in a style that I enjoy. 92

Slight hint of something I thought might be TCA. Perfumed VA. Cherry - maraschino. Deep fruit. Hint of tamari wood development. (Not new oak, just tertiary notes). Medium body. Elevated alcohol. High tannins. Chewy and satisfying. A little melted. Elevated acid. Low bitterness. Deep cherry and sandalwood spice on the palate. Cherry stalks. So good.

Dinner with Rajiv and Roger (Millbrae): Stood up for months, decanted off small fine sediment. Light-medium ruby, very slight bricking for nebbiolo at this age; aromatic, high toned red cherry, spice (clove, star anise), floral; palate is medium bodied, quite robust tannins for a Barolo from Verduno at this age, high acidity, fruit still relatively primary, black cherry; finish is medium length. Very drinkable with food and a good Barolo, but a bit deeper and rougher than I was expecting at this age from Verduno. One bottle left and I'll try to give it a few more years. 92+ 6 hours in a decanter: Definitely more approachable, tannins a bit more integrated and showing more red fruits. Decant if opening now, but this will certainly last another decade or two easily. Day 2: still lovely aromatics, spices; tannins still present on the palate but balances well with a risotto; medium finish. Lovely Barolo, excellent value for the price paid.

La Festa del Barolo: A Taste of Verduno (Locanda Verde): Very much in the dark and brooding style and perhaps with a bit more oak. It’s an intense wine. Drying in style. Funny because it drinks much younger than the two younger siblings.

This was given 6ish hours of air and it blossomed beautifully from the air. There are still clear primary tones of dark red cherries, raspberries, sour red fruits, along with savory herbs, licorice, roses, violets, leather, tar, crushed rocks, a touch of mushrooms, and a bit of earthiness. This nose is wide open and in harmony as the tones are just working together beautifully right now. The Full bodied feel is balanced and deep with youthful, high tannins and tart, high acidity. The structure still has some drying qualities that can be tough for some on its own. With food, this is amazing right now. I still see room for this to develop as the structure has some punch to it.

Meme note qu’en janvier, meme impression. Les tannins tres fins donnent une note legere d’amertume. Sinon un vin excellent encore sur le fruit cerise (medium body). Classy Barolo with some years towards an “old” burgundy

Extremely intense nose more about all spice, clove and fresh dark fruit than floral notes. Delicious palate showing development but still some freshness and a bit of tannin. Great balance, only thing holding this back is a medium length finish. Very classy Barolo well in the zone, will be here a long time.

Hugely aromatic of pine forest floor, pressed flowers, spice rack, old oak and baked black cherries. Medium-bodied and still has a core of gritty tannin. This was fantastic with a grilled ribeye and great (though drying) on its own. Given the grittiness of the tannin and lack of generosity, I'm really glad I decided to drink my last (of many) bottles sooner rather than later. 92
Note: After going back and looking at my previous reviews of this wine, I want to point out how fantastic these wines are in their relative youth/midlife. I've always noticed they must sterile filter their wines bc a 14 year old wine without a trace of sediment isn't natural. I may have been generous with the points this evening, but it's bc of the amazing aromatic intensity and complexity despite a withering palate. The Baroli from Alessandria develop fantastically to age 10-12 then seem to decline rapidly, so keep that in mind.

despite some tannins dispersed, an excellent wine , a typical old barolo with some fruit like cherry marmelade. however, already a wine in transition towards tertiary aroma je rejoins le point de vue de Dionysos club; écorce, sous-bois;confiture de cerise , un vin que je n'ai pas bu jeune mais qui as encore au moins 10 ans devant lui

This wine has seen better days. Somewhat stinky nose of roasted black cherries and composted pine needles and leaf mould. Tobacco and cooked black cherries on the palate. the 2006-2008 single vineyard selections from Alessandria need to be drunk! 89

Quite brilliant. Pale red to light blonde/red in color. A mouthful of licorice, honey, currants and wet soil. Tannins are integrated and the wine is smooth. A great expression of Barolo.

Nice aroma of pine, pressed flowers, tobacco and a hint of mint. Palate is medium-full bodied with more of the same. This seems to lack the palate presence of a great Barolo, it’s not as great as their other single vineyard cuvées, but correct. Still fresh and youthful, but this doesn’t seem like it will improve with further aging. 88

Great. Still a big structure. Fruit and nice acidity. Firm but with the food (ossobuco) it was smooth, fruity and fresh. Very balanced and enough weight and freshness. Still very alive and lots of potential.

This is so much better than the last tasting that I practically want to weep with joy. Utterly spectacular, the sounds in my head are of Vittorio Grigolo singing "Una Furtiva Lagrima." Elegant and full of grace, this does not so much explode from the glass as it seduces you with a nose of anise, cassis and licorice notes. On the palate it is silky and sublime and, oh, it is just poetry to drink. So beautiful; so wonderful. I love it. It is why I love Barolo.

Quite aromatic with scents of wood barrels, musty basements, cooked black cherries and mint. Pine resin as well. Medium-full bodied and still quite tannic with good acidity, but also some thickness and density. High-toned, with flavors that echo the aromas. A little on the woody side for my taste, but still delicious. 92 df 9.1

Drank alongside 2006 Conterno Romirasco and Ratti Rocche. This was kind of all over the place during the evening. At first I thought it was the WOTN, but then the fruit started to take a back seat to the alcohol and heat. After, an hour or so, it flipped back to being more about the fruit and there were nice notes of raisin, licorice and a hint of pepper and tarragon. 92-93

Partners' Dinner (Wild Rocket, Singapore): Enjoyable. This was clearly many years to young to fully appreciate, yet such was the grace of the 2006 Barolo vintage and the elegance on this particular wine that it gave plenty of pleasure after an hour or so in the decanter. We had a classic nose with this one - smoky tar, a hint of rose petals, along with subtle scents of black cherries and a little touch of dried earth. Very nice. The palate was built in quite a classical style as well, with a firm layer of slightly chewy tannins and bright orangey acidity forming a finely structure backdrop for light brushstrokes of black fruited flavours seasoned with little hints of smoke and earth. Really nice with a bit of roasted quail on the side, with the game meat calling out an echo of higher-toned sweetness from the fruit. Decent finish too, with a little waft of flowers and tar amidst a light layering of tannins. Not the weightiest nor the most porfound wine, but this was really fresh, lively, impecabbly balanced - a more feminine style of Barolo. It should be a really pretty wine in another 10 years or so.
