  • Smoky, minerally, and a little funk, complex nose. Fruit is fresh and vibrant, backed by solid acidity. Soft, dusty tannins provide good structure, Chocolate, cacao nibs on the long and persuasive finish. Fully mature, probably a couple of years past its best, but still providing lots of pleasure.

  • Served blind. Loads of sweet fruit - black cherry, black raspberry, plum, very ripe verging on prune. A big mineral whiff too, like ozone or petrichor, black pepper, quite spicy. Definitely some Grenache in here, elevated alcohol but absolutely billowing serious presence and energetic acidity. I'm guessing 90s Palacios L'Ermita. In a great spot right now.

  • Bit of dankness at first sniff, but dissipated soon. Herbal and minerally, sharp flavors and bright acidity. Youthful, extracted and succulent; Quite spicy and flavorful, this is finally totally mature. I hadn't tasted this wine in quite a long time so was not sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised to discover how well it's holding up with time. I've always said that Mogador was the most ageworthy wine in Priorat, and this bottle agrees with me. Drink and enjoy.

  • Fully mature with earth tones, underwood, silky tannins fading into the background. A really nice bottle of mature Clos Mogador.

  • 5th of 9. Better than I remember, full but light with an, apparently, American oak backing. Plenty of life left. Lifted nose. Delicious.

  • Manure, charred fruit, turned soil. Almost port-like concentration on the nose. The funk recedes with lots of air and reveals a wine with serious stuffing, spice, and verve. Pretty good, if a bit bizarre.

  • On a night of high end spanish wines this one stood out as among the best. A 76 Unico showed better (big surprise) A 99 Alion and a 98 Martinet showed as well but the rest were a tier down. This is top quality Spanish wine and still has a long life ahead.

  • Spanish Wines with Rob: earthy and funky wine, much like CDP, strong tannins still there, very smooth middle, excelent balance. very very good now - no point of waiting longer it seems...YUM!

  • Some Spain in NY (Tintol, NYC): Medium to deep ruby. Funky, earthy nose with elements of mud and licorice. On the palate, good acid, tart blackberries and herbs. This isn't in danger of falling apart soon.

  • Every bottle of the 1994 Mogador I've had has had a very pronounced earthy nose, a particularly pungent variety of earth that some people view more as a funk. The wine is super sharp, with fierce minerality and strong supporting acidity. Still a little tannic, with a very spicy palate. The wine softens up with extended airing and ultimately seems to be drinking very well. The wine does have a strange personaility and is not for everyone; As I've seen very little change in the wine over the last couple of years, I see it holding this profile for at least a couple more.

  • Piercing cherry liqueur nose, pungent clean wet earth. Really intense acidity and minerals, and plenty of sweet tannins to hold it all up. Perhaps lacking in complexity a little, but overall very enjoyable.

  • Tight nose, a little funky at first, made me worry that it might be a little corked. But throughout the evening I never got any further feeling that the bottle was tainted. Eventually the nose opened up somewhat to reveal black fruits and coffee. In the mouth, it's an exotic concoction of tannins, minerals and acidity. The tannins are strong enough to keep this alive for quite some time to come, though the fruit is strong enough to give the wine a nice balance and make it pretty approachable now. Very good depth, but really not in the same league as the 94 Erasmus, which is much more extravagant and elegant. An exemplary bottle.

  • Blueberry fruit, bacon, spiced plums, warm stones... quite nice. Fully resolved tannins, yet still has good grip; could probably age a bit longer.

  • Dark ruby red. Sweet and pleasant aromas of chocolate, vanilla, wood, and wild fruits. Full body, with concentrated flavors of prunes, some resins, blackcurrant, ripe grapes as well as loads of heavy oak. Not young oak, but heavy woody oak (and not the kind I want to find in a wine..). The wine was loaded with sediments, and though decanted, was hard to get by. I found the wine having a little but pretty annoying balance problem. Tannins were ok (and actually hardly noticeable), as well as acidity which was good (but could use a little more in my opinion), but the wine was just too oaky. To a degree, where the oak got in the way for the concentrated fruity flavors to really shine. Overall, a tasty wine, that seemed as if it had a few structure problems to really come through. Unless I am 100% wrong, I believe this wine is at its peak.

Note: I had the 1994 Alvaro Palacios Finca Dofi two nights before, and in my opinion, is by far the definite winner if you compare the two.
