Solid Oregon pinot. On opening good size, fruit, secondary flavors and structure. Unfortunately it seemed to fade rather quickly as it lost much of its personality after 2-3 hours.

Nice aromatics. Medium-bodied, with smoky, spicy cherry fruits. A nice smooth, persistent finish. It's tough to say whether this improved over the past 5 years, but it certainly shows no signs of being over the hill.

A bit past its prime drinking window with fading fruit, strong acidity and earthy, cola flavors. Decanted for 45 minutes and it opened up over the next hour during dinner but never really impressed.

Screw top bottle. Drink them up. Light garnet color, almost port-like, mostly clear. Still a great nose, very floral, some plum and coffee. Smooth mouthfeel, not heavy after 8+ years, less fruity than at release, but still a fair amount of heat, thinking maybe I missed the window by just a bit on this one, but I still like it a lot. Great finish. A wonderful match with cumin and paprika rubbed pork tenderloin and some lemon roasted potatoes.

Very earthy, very pleasant to drink but the fruit on the nose and taste is giving up. Drink now. This was the first screw top bottle case I ever bought and am not disappointed but this wine paled in comparison to the Chehalem Spirithouse pinot from 03 that we had with it tonight.

Mild mannered Oregon Pinot that reflects pretty raspberry and black plum, boasting a light garnet color. Tight and restrained to start, this red opened up after a couple of hours. Once a mighty example of the grand Nuthouse series, this wine has fallen off from it's high perch. A touch of spice is featured on an uninspiring finish. Only faint character the second night, it frankly just ran out of gas. Matched with fresh cedar plank coho salmon, new red garlic and herb potatoes and parmesan crusted asparagus. Drink now.

Apparently, my wine was extremely happy with it's abode for the last 6+ years. This wine was awesome!! The KB I had the other night could only hope it achieves this kind of complexity, flavor, and height of enjoyment. I admit, overall, I prefer OR pinots to CA pinots because a top OR pinot has way more of the forest/earth/spice, and dark berry flavors that I like than it's southern brethern. While mysteriously light on it's feet, this wine tastes big, yet it is so elegant and profound. Still young tasting, some tannin left, good acidity, nice 60+ second finish...this had time to age further, but this bottle was at it's peak. Absolutely fabulous with fresh salmon and homemade guacamole. One of the best pinots I've ever had (Burg hounds...wish you could have been here).

From magnum with a big Thanksgiving buffet. It's been about 2 and a half years since we last had this wine and it has integrated a little better along the way. Very nice balance of acidity, fruit and texture make for a great wine that I consider to be a hybrid of style between the bigger CA pinot and the more elegant Burgundian style. I scored this 92-93 back when I had the previous bottles and the wine still lives up to that score.

Excellent Oregon PN. Spicy cherries, plenty of fruit, but a demure sophisticated PN compared to some Cali pinots I've been drinking lately. Agree with others that this is probably peaking.

Have not drank one of these for some time. Last tasting I was not impressed. Time seems to have tamed this one and with a little air it now is drinking quite nicely. Muted nose of cinammon, white pepper and cherries. Smooth drinking at this point with tastes of bing cherries, spice and a little barnyard funk. Middle of the road pinot, nice to drink but nothing special.

Tasted December 19, 2007 at an offline. Opened and served immediately. Garnet color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of black cherries, black berries, plums and a hint of smoke. Flavors of black cherries, black raspberries and a bit of vanilla. Medium to bright acidity, medium to firm tannins, medium to full body. Drink or hold.

I brought this bottle to a BYO restaurant so I wasn't able to decant or let the wine breath. Consumed bottle over about 45 minutes. I still think this packs a lot of heat especially on the finish. Perhaps more exposure to oxygen would help but it wasn't opening up in the glass over the short term. I will decant for several hours next time and or let the last bottle rest another couple of years and see what happens.

Our last bottle of the 02 Nuthouse. Showed just as good as the others with the classic silky Argyle texture. Fortunately, the 04 Nuthouse will be released in April. We tasted that one from the barrel about 18 months ago and it was fantastic then so we can't wait to see how it is from the bottle.

Funny, looking at previous tasting notes I wrote on this wine. Obviously, I like the wine but a 92 score given in April of '06? No, not worth that score but, I have gotten much more stingy with ratings since then. Anyway, nice, subtle wine. I do believe it to be past it's zenith but enjoyable through a stuffy nose and mild fever. Perhaps I would have liked it better if my faculties were a 100%?

Definitely drinking well right now. Opened the bottle and let it sit for about an hour before drinking. Lively fruits framed by a silky finish with a slight bit of oak. The finish lasts for about 25 seconds or so. A great value. We look forward to the 04 Nuthouse Pinot from Argyle.

Tasted blind. Vibrant ruby color. Nose dominated by ripe red fruit and was much more perfumed and floral than the others. Just adding note now since I just started using cellar tracker drank 4/8/06. I thought the wine was very tight. It was a little too big. The first thing I noticed in the nose was alcohol. The first bottle I opened of this was unenjoyable, and I believe to be flawed (not sure if really corked, though). Opened a 2nd bottle tonight that was significantly better. This is a well delineated pinot with moderate aromas of cherry and cola on the nose, and classic pinot flavor and structure on the palate. However, for my tastes the alcohol does show through a little on the nose and palate. Nonetheless, a relatively well made wine that should improve over the next few years.

Well, my first tasting note on Cellar Tracker...anyway I'm not too familiar with domestic Pinot Noir, (beisdes Brian L.'s wines) still, thought I would try this tonight with Copper River Salmon from the grill. Had a piece of king CR, about 12 oz., with olive oil, fleur de sel salt, and fresh cracked pepper. To go with the fish, had an ear of white corn (love the stuff), sliced tomato with EVO, salt and pepper, steamed asparagus and a small spinah salad. Oh yeah, also had 2002 Argyle Nuthouse Pinot. Pulled the cork, poured a glass and felt pretty sure that I should have pulled something else from the cellar. Not much on them nose and a hint of cherry cola on the palate. An hour later, as the salmon was going on the grill, the stuff really changed for me. Much more on the nose, not great at writing descriptors but suffice it to say that I like it...I know, that doesn't help any of you out does it? Anyway, over the course of the evening, it really became expansive, much more of a "pinot" than when initally opened. Very smooth, velvety, with loads of fruit. (first time I've ever used the word "velvety"). A 30 second finish. The three remaining bottles that I have will probably be consumed over the summer, I don't see this getting any better but, as is usual, I could be wrong! Overalll, good stuff. 88 points
