Little past its prime. Cork disintegrated and lack of acidity and a little stewed character so it unfortunately didn't live up to the expectation I had hoped for.

1996 Burgundy Retrospective - The Third Session (Clarity - Vienna, Virginia): Medium expressive nose displaying concentrated black fruit, blackberry, black cherry, smoked meat and earth. Very good concentration, packed rich black fruit, bright acidity, earthy mineral, noticeable but fine tannins and a medium to long concentrated black fruit driven finish. For my palate, the overall expression is rich yet masculine. Still needs time.

Decanted 2 1/2 hours. Medium color with a thin clear rim. Lovely complex nose shows a cornucopia of sweet and Asian spices along with some high-toned notes of mint. The first palate impression is bold yet elegant and lithe with fresh flavors of red cherry, herbal tea and an interesting briar-y note--all focused by tart cherry acidity and ripe but evident tannins that carry the whole package into a very long and refreshing finish. Very fine. 94 pts. Drink now to 2023.

Opened and decanted for 1 hour before serving. Slight musk and funky nose at the open dissapeared after 5-10 mins. The wine is still young with lovely plums, dark cherries and hints of herbs and forest floor on the finish. Drink beautifully ofter the course of the evening.

Garnet, clearly darker color than the usual ruby I was expecting. Similar on the nose which is fairly deep and dark. A juicy palate with red and dark fruit, forest floor, plenty of herbs (Marjoran?). High acidity. Still fine tannins. Medium + finish. Not sure this will improve much but no rush to finish either. A very nice wine and much better than their 97 the other day - still at the going rate of somewhere around USD 120, I find the QPR ok at best.

I've read the previous notes and would say for some years my experience has been similar to some with a wine closed hard against the world yielding little but this bottle shows the magic of a long adolescent sulk in a cool cellar. Color still deep crimson with red edges. Nose pure mix of black and red fruits with spice and floral notes of great CDNs. Palate medium weight and beautifully structured with lingering fine tannin and acid to provide fine balance. A great CDV with life ahead but delicious now.

Clos Vougeot Dinner (Lavandou): My WOTN. This wine had the most classic and regal pitch to the nsoe. Mature and deep, classic pinot driven notes of black cherry and lavender. Not overtly complex, but quite a beauty nonetheless.

This wine has always been a bit disappointing and nothing has really changed. The aroma shows a little promise once you wade through the smells that would be more appropriate on old McDonald’s farm. There is a little decaying leaf action with blood plum and earth. In the mouth some dense, sweet fruit wrestles with blotting paper astringency. The vintage’s brisk acidity is evident and the whole package is about as harmonious as a meeting of rival outlaw motorcycle gangs. The bottle was finished so it is a 1 pointer on the Weinberg binary scale, given that it was a half bottle, if it was 376mls or above me thinks it would have got a 0!

Probably past prime. Still tasty after an hour decant. Light body, red fruit, some earth, not complex.

Light red. Leather, citrus/lemon flavors (?). Plenty of acidity. this wine is screaming for a food companion. Good wine but nothing big.
