This bottle looked & tasted much younger than my last bottle (enjoyed in 2014). Didn't take notes but this drank really well and was still good 1 night later. 91+/-

Incredible minerality, elegance, and herbacite. Doesn't have immense stuffing but is so transparent. Usual northern Rhine nuances of herbs, except these aren't smoked or roasted but just ground up and lightly dusted. Bravo!

At Colicchio & Sons: Lovely mature Syrah with each new pour. Left to sit in the glass, an ashtray-like brettiness emerges that belies its freshness and food-friendly acidity.

1st wine of tasting & served blind (knew it was French given theme). I guessed old school type CDP and pros with us correctly guessed a Syrah based northern rhone wine. Looked younger than '01 - some fading but pretty dark. On nose, tobacco, dirt, black cherry, meat & smoke. On palate, layered flavor profile - black cherry, earthy & tobacco and some sweet tannins were still there on the long finish. Very much enjoyed this. 92+/- Would buy this.

Decanted for about an hour. First sip was very spritzy and acidic, even with braised lamb belly to balance it out. Over a couple of hours it settled down and was drinking OK on the last few sips - nice brambly fruit, although the nose was still reserved.
I think this would be showed best if we could have re-corked and stuck in the fridge for the night, but unfortunately we were at a restaurant.

Leo's Blind Tasting Club (Oct 2011): Double blind. Dark, earthy, herby. Guessed Northern Rhone. Liked this better than the Cabot poured with it, by a hair.

Great stuff. Layered with deep complexioned, smoke-tinged fruit, savoury meatiness and peppery and floral elements, still rather young with a sense of real density and power to the flavours and firm tannins beneath, but it's still an incredibly rewarding bottle to open now.

Outstanding Saint-Joseph. Based on notes here and elsewhere, I expected something good and this exceeded my expectations. I didn't find this to have overly high acid at all, and it was in balance from the moment I opened the bottle. Dark and still fairly tannic, this has seemingly made it over the hump into early middle-age, with lovely autumnal and smoky/savory meat notes amidst the dark fruit and a suave and classy texture. Probably at its best in 3-5 years but drinking very well now.

Red fruit, lots of pepper, very high acid. Actually acid is high enough to make even me pull back at first. With a little time, it fills out, with the fruit standing up to the acid. Nicely spicy, firm tannins, I think a couple more years will do this some good. B+

Nice earthy, plummy, vibrant fruit with high acidity and a rubber base. Deep with a dark core. HIgh toned tannins and a sharp long finish. Seem like it could still use some time to resolve, but drinking pretty well now. A bit rough. B

Fully mature, sweet Syrah berry fruit, a little barnyard, meat, holding on but don’t hold on. B/B+

Not as good as my last tasting in 7/2013. I don't think I decanted it long enought - enjoyable but more 90+/-.
