When first opened, had a very slight whiff of oxidation that disappeared very quickly. Highly enjoyable bottle, but should be consumed in the next couple of years.

I have been slowly using up the 2001s. This bottle was drunk at 21 years old. Served to experienced tasters and as every time before people remarked as to how fresh it is. Very few tasters would have the experience to have expectations for Semillon predominant wines at 20 years, we certainly don’t. I would say that the age has made the typical Semillon characters less obvious. I am going to go ahead and serve the other bottles.

The floral tones that come with all the show honeysuckle add a lot to the ripe, sweet, yellow citrus, and dried peach notes. The wine is still fresh, vibrant, and plush on the palate and in the finish.

Served two bottles at a dinner party. They were very similar though one showed a bit more roundness that was much in evidence in the 2000 I had last week. Still both were much brighter with better acids. The colour is not of a white this old. Though academically I don't know one might hazard that the '01 cepage had a bit more Sauvignon blanc.

This wine paled by comparison to the '98 Haut Brion Blanc served beside it. It wasn't as interesting or exotic as the '02 "Y". On its own probably would have really enjoyed it, but in this case it suffered from the competition. A good white Bordeaux, probably not going to get better, but should continue to drink well at least a few years.

Essence of dry Bordeaux Semilion and Sauvignon blanc. Incrediblly lush mouthfeel, not sweet but voluptuous texture, fragrance of dried apricot and flowers. Drinking perfectly but probably has another 10 years.

(BYO Blind tasting) Full, rich nose with a very balanced impression of ripe apple, toasty oak, honey, peca-nuts. Harmonius, quite elegant and smooth. Powerful, dense and rich palate with very good acidic backbone for freshness. Oak sublimely integrated. Rich with yellow apple and good grip. Maybe not so long finish as expected. And not as intense. With its Semillon-dominated mix, this is not the typical White Bordeaux of nettles and oak. Much more sublime, it maybe lacked a bit of minerality. But maybe it was just too early...

Delighful light lemon color, looking very young! Nose offers tropical, especially pineapple and citrus fruit and mineral notes. Although not restrained in any way the nose is serious: intense but focused. Rather full on the palate with high acidity, citrus notes and more pronounced than on the nose, smoky oak. Long cleansing finish. An excellent wine which plays on finesse, texture and balance rather than on aromas and flavors (which it does not lack), so I would characterize it as a difficult wine to appreciate. Seems to have decades of life ahead of it.

i add the plus because this wine has so much room for development and improvement. It could probably be talked already into the mid 90's based on potential. Very powerful but smooth at the same time.Served blind a couple at the table thought it was a Chassagne Montrachet or similar due to the depth and oak. But the lighted fresher fruit (citrus) and the lack of "butter/fat" for want of a better word moved the discussion to the Bordeaux region. For those that have grown up on New World Sav Blanc and Sav Blanc/Semillion blends, this wine is a revalation to how great these wines can become with age, how much depth they have and the complexity of flavours. Be it the terrior, the wine-makers, climate and location or or a balanced combination of all these, there isn't anything I have tasted from the New World that has this structure with these grapes. The closest would be the Lovedale Semillion (96 or 98). Iif you haven't had the pleasure of enjoying Bordeaux Blanc, I would recommend that you go out and buy one for a special occasion and enjoy... but make sure it has a decade of age, to really start seeing its potential.

B3. Still very fresh - great acid and very light. Slightly muted on nose but beautiful finish of nuts and fruit. Dinner at Iconiq.

Golden honey in the glass. Started out a bit oxidized but blew off after a few hours. Lemon and Mellon. Finishes with a bit of flint.
