  • From magnum, this had lovely spice and was quite elegant. One of the better 2006 reds I have had in a while, and one of the better Vogue wines. This is quite approachable, and should drink well for some years.

  • 2006 Burgundy Dinner (Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck, Paragon): A decently good wine in its own fashion, but this suffered badly from being served together with an ethereally beautiful bottle of Drouhin's 2006 Amoureuses. The nose here was very Vogue in character - deeper and richer than the Drouhin, it gave aromas of dark cherries and blueberries, spice, earth and crushed violets. A thick and heady bouquet, but really quite attractive. The palate was rather out of step with the nose though. The depth was there, and a surprisingly amount of power, but there was something just a bit drying and tough beneath its otherwise juicy black cherry flavours. Finish was pleasant, with a little kiss of spice and crushed flowers. All in all, decently good, but lacking the grace and elegance one would expect from an Amoureuses. A bit disappointing given how nicely this showed in its youth. Given the trajectory of the wine's development, I would probably drink this sooner rather than later.

  • The loser of the flight, owing to its youth. Oak is excessive at this stage, and it lacks the complexity of the older wines in the tasting. However, there is a core of serious fruit, and I suspect it will become elegant when the oak integrates. I would have no interest in opening a bottle in less than 8 years, it's really a baby.

  • Long spell at work, could not resist opening this Friday night. Popped and poured. Pristine cork. Shimmering deep ruby color. Nose a proverbial shot across the bow indicating a serious wine, showing immediate scents of violets, anise, forest floor, cinnamon, licorice, and soy. Beautiful, vivacious red raspberry, mulberry, and dark cherry fruit on the palate with a fast second wave of underbrush, iron flecks, anise, and earth. Strong but filed-off tannins balanced by bracing acidity and all that fruit. Delectable finish of freshness, lively red fruit, iron, and grip. Ah, Les Amoureuses.

  • young purple color. a uplifting nose of polished red fruits. for the first hour the tanins were front and center but after a while they made way for a delicious, young , fleshy dark fruit mouthful . well balanced and showing a great future

  • 2006 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Dinner (Wine Universe, Millenia Walk): A sexpot of a young wine. Lip-smackingly delicious, but perhaps a little less impressive than the more subtle, rather nobler Chambolle-Musigny 1er on the same flight. This one had a thickly voluptuous nose that set the tone for the rest of the wine. Ripe scents of fleshy red fruit, macerated cherries, almost wilting flower petals and some mushroomy earth wafted out of the glass at me. Very rich scents, almost hinting of liquer, but with some mineral and spice scents underneath that pulled one back to Chambolle. Such a contrast to the more serious CM 1er before it. The palate was every bit what I expected from the nose. It had lots of fleshy red fruit, all plump, sappy and voluptuous, with a nice juiciness and velvety structure that kept the wine ever so seductively delicious. With a bit of time, some lovely floral notes started weaving their way in and out of the fruit. A very forward, very sexy wine. Yet for all that, it was certainly no one-dimensional air-head, with a gentle stream of minerality, some Chinese herb and nice spice notes peppering the finish and adding a nice bit of interest. Not quite as serious as the other wines on show, but this is really in a nice sweet-spot - clearly a top-end 1er Cru and a joy to drink.
