Love this bottling--big typical SB flavors with a massive acidic backbone. Grapefruit, grass and even a little salinity-a very good wine. Our last bottle was drank in 2012 and it drank amazingly. the acid had faded slightly and what was left was big fruit and some delicious secondary characteristics to balance it out. Wish i had aged a few more...

Grassy, grapefruit, cat pee and quinine with some juniper. (the finish was just like I was drinking a gin and tonic). This is a terrific SB in any league and especially so for the price.

Holy green pepper Batman! This is still a zingy grapefruit bomb with good length. The back half is more composed than a year ago, at the expense of perhaps a little fresh complexity. I picked up some cat pee nose this time as well, especially on the pop & pour yesterday. Good QPR, especially if you like the flavor of liquified green onions, peppers, and grass. Went well with a salad/sushi roll (esp. the ginger).

Popped and poured. Wow, this out-New-Zealands New Zealand! The nose explodes with grapefruit, lime and grass. Echoed on the palate, with an epic acidity that dances all over the tongue. Medium-bodied, maybe a little fuller than the usual NZ juice. Still fresh and vibrant. This is very nice for fans of the style (I am), but would be way too much for anyone else. Very refreshing on a hot summer day. It's really interesting that this style can be pulled off in other parts of the world. Great value at $18.

Wow. Lemon zest and orange peel followed by a smoky finish. It has a darker flavor profile than a year ago. It is still as vibrant and juicy but it has different flavor characteristics. This is my last bottle. This would be a bottle you could leave for 5+ years and experiment to see what complexity would appear. 90 points. The acid in this wine died down a bit on night two. There are a lot more mineral notes to the taste. I love it. This wine stands up well to the warm wine test. Score raised to 91. I wish I had cases of this stuff.

Opened with grilled chicken and tom/motz/onion salad. I like other bottles of my Casa Marin much better. This one is extremely grassy bordering on manure-y if that is a word. Light gold in color. A huge amount of grass on the nose. It totally reminds me of a NZ sb. I wonder if this vintage is deteriorating quicker and this is what it tastes like or if this is just the taste of the wine. I don't remember it in the first bottle. One to go. A fair amount of sweet acidity on the tongue. Good long finish. I like it better as it warms up. Funny how the end of this TN differs from my last one.

Brought this to a byo last night and was very impressed again. Pale straw color. Intoxicating nose of tropical fruit, grapefruit, banana peel, jalapeno pepper with some green grass. Crisp and clean on the palate with melon and tropical fruit flavors (almost pina colada) along with some nice minerality. Hint of sweetness on the long, enjoyable finish. This wine is a rock star for the price. Very complex. Would rebuy.

Powerful and pure but people on the fence about Sav Blanc will probably not take to this wine. The nose shows concentrated grass, grapefruit pith, and chalk, with the palate adding green pepper, white fruit, lemongrass, and some refreshing salinity. Which sort of green pepper, might you ask? Whichever ones you would like to project. I'm partial to finding bell pepper and serrano pepper today, but don't take that as implying bitterness, as a foundation of fruit keeps the wine together. Excellent wine, excellent QPR. I think I prefer the Laurel for being just a bit rounder and more versatile.

Serious "cat pee" on the nose. Pink grapefruit and zest as well. Concentrated wine that worked with food and by itself. A "sipper" not a "gulper", yet a light and refreshing mouth feel. Never had a wine quite like it.

Tasting notes by quenau hit the nail squarely on the head. Too one dimensional to be a sipping wine (in our opinion) but paired very well with tofu and asparagus one night and then chicken with panko crumbs and bok choy another. Definitely a unique wine worth tasting.

Absolutely distinctive wine, with pronounced freshly picked green tomato stem in hot heat; green tomatoes; bell pepper and medley of jalapeno, Serrano and anahiems. Strong bracing acid, refreshing wine; highly recommended particularly if one enjoys fresh crunch peppers. One dimensional in dominating flavour profile, but well done.

Last bottle. For whatever reason this one showed more complexity in the bouquet, like what we experienced in early bottles six months ago and better than the last couple. An explosive nose of lemon, meadow grass and straw, flint, minerals, sea spray, and the prickly green tomato or cucumber vine noted previously. The attack is truly an assault of concentrated grapefruit and lemon plus minerals through a high beam of acidity carrying into a long finish. Reflecting on it overall, this is a memorable SB for the sheer intensity of fruit in the nose and on the palate. This particular bottle was a little off for me in that the acidity was quite high in combination with the tart fruit finish.

Concentrated, dramatic, and intense. Lots of grapefruit and the kinds of grassy notes you used to see in California Sauv Blancs. Plenty of power and plenty of acidity. In the end, not something I'd want to drink on a regular basis, as the power became a little tiring as we worked through the bottle, but impressive nonetheless.

Wow. First whiff reveals a jalapeno-infused (which tells me it's a chilean SB) grapefruit covered in kerosene. The fruit is way in the background. Very different from the other tasting notes; could be that I'm drinking it at room temperature (69 deg.). Same flavor notes on the palate. Very intense for an SB, and not in the NZ typical way. Not quite sure what to make of this initially. Extraordinarily complex and extracted, almost oily, with a bit of frizzante.

I agree with other reviewer that this bottle, as well as the last, have been similar in that the bouquet and palate have not been quite as complex as the earlier bottles. Still striking with its nose of grapefruit essence, saline, minerals, and powder, but lacking the spicey watermark, prickly freshness and extra nuances giving it the wow factor that would compel me to score it higher. The idea of keeping a bottle open an additional day to see if it regains is intriguing, but we were unable to comply tonight because it's hot and sticky and the wine is too refreshing to leave alone. Intense, focused grapefruit and citrus flavors conveyed with mouthwatering acidity and a long finish still make this a great QPR.

Not up to the level of two earlier bottles (92). The aromatics --so spectacular earlier-- were kind of muted here. It still has distinctive minerality, nice balance and precise grapefruit flavors, but this particular bottle lacked the wow factor it has delivered before. Outshone by a 2008 Kim Crawford SB consumed at the same time. 89.
UPDATE: One night later, this is showing much, much better. The stunning aromatics of earlier bottles seem to have returned. Odd that it took so long to open up, but worth an upgrade for this particular bottle. 90

Pale yellow color. Very intoxicating nose. Heavy on the citrus with lemon, lime and grapefruit scents along with a strong slate or wet rock component and some lychee. A pleasure to smell. Strong bouquet of citrus and hay. BB felt it was more delicate on the palate than the nose promised; BH felt the palate was powerful, with strong and rich flavors and significant alkalinity. We enjoyed this, although in general BH prefers the sancerre style of Sauvignon Blanc.

Started at about 65 and let warm to room temperature, noting more grapefruit in the bouquet and taste this time compared to last, and a bit less complexity. Overall though, an outstanding SB between the deep nose, refreshing acidity, and long finish. Fabulous pairing with sushi.

Like many TNs note ... very interesting aromatics. Was a litte more bodied for a Sauvignon Blanc and didnt have the level of acidity, cripsness that I was expecting. Was at a BBQ and it was served as cold as normal which reveals more of the wine. Have another bottle and will give it another try. Overall a nice bottle

BIG nose, with a lot of citrus, quince, and some funky kitty litter. Arresting, though maybe a little overblown. And given the big aromas, not a lot of there there on the palate. Also seemed a little hot from the high alcohol. But still a really interesting SB.

Most excellent! Lovely falntest pink tinge on pouring, turning to palest lemon. Fresh aroma of grapefruit and citrus spilled on granite. Barely sweetened lemondade flavors--juice and rind. Almost unbalanced acidity, with the fruit and long finish saving the day.

Holy Crap, the nose on this thing. I've never had a sauvignon blanc like this before. Have it with seafood on a hot day. I think this will also get better with a year or two of bottle age. It might be overwhelming for some at first, but you will definitely warm up to you by the middle of your first glass. If you can ever stop sniffing long enough to taste.

JMull hit the nail squarely with the comment that the nose itself may well approach a mid-90's score, and for 20 bones locally, this is an awesome buy with highest recommendation if you like sauvignon blanc. Served cold the nose is lemon and grapefruit, fresh cut grass, sea spray, and spices. With air and warming to room temperature over three hours the bouquet takes on complexity and presence that is captivating and really shows off just how good SB can be. In particular this had a secondary level of spice in the nose that kept making me think of a prickly garden vine, like that of a tomato or cucumber. The fruit penetrates the palate with an intense beam of lemon and spray, joined by some minerals in the midpalate and finish. I'm strange in that I love to eat grapefruit pith when it is thick and toward sweetness, and remarkably, this has that element of mild bitterness in the finish. Overall the level of complexity, refreshingly intense lemon fruit, high acidity, and the moderately long finish make this a memorable wine that pairs well with food and is interesting on its own. Spouse commented with sushi and later again how much she loved this, and asked if we have more. Thankfully yes.

91 IWC. 95 W&S. Light straw color. Nose shows perfect pink grapefruit, with a hint of apricot and lime, with terrific intensity. It smells like a95-point wine, to be sure. Palate isn't quite at that level, but it shows highly focused grapefruit flavors with a real sense of terroir/minerality, finishing with a hint of bitter zest. This is a big, mouthfilling wine, with a long, lingering finish (15-20 seconds easy). Purchased for $19.99 from Wine Library, and it is a tremendous wine for the price. Very pleased to have another bottle of this. 92-94.
