Popped and poured and thought, oh no. First impression on the nose was a bit of volatile acidity followed by loamy earth. But it evolved in the glass, and by my second helping of moroccan lamb with preserved lemons, it had become a quite charming and friendly wine, with flowers and vanilla on the nose, red fruit on the palate and an excellent, though medium-length finish. The ingredients aren't fully integrated--and at 15% it's a bit hot--but it starts to sing a bit. At $27 I'm happy with the QPR.

The wine was aerated through a Vinturi and then decanted for ~ 30 minutes at cellar temperature. The nose explodes with ripe dark cherries and undertones of cinnamon, vanilla, mocha, and spice. On the palate the wine opens with luscious (but not overdone/jammy) dark fruit, and extends onto a equal midpalate in combination with bitter chocolate. The wine has medium length, finishing with soft tannins, hints of green pepper, stem, and worn leather. Despite the label stating an alcohol content of 15%, it is only slightly noticeable on the finish. This is medium to full bodied, smoothly textured wine with good transitions. Overall this wine is well made and tasty, but lacks a certain focus on the palate. If burgundy is your style, this may be a little too rich in fruit.

Decanted but needed at least 30 minutes to open up. Nice fruity nose, clean flavors, medium bodied. Alcohol held up to steak and tomato salad.

Finely textured, but bracingly sharp on the palate - this is particularly enjoyable up front where it shows nice floral and red fruit notes.

Tried at Mondavi Winery. Medium bodied pinot, fruit forward with soft tannins, medium finish. A decent pint but probably not worth $60.
