We decanted the wine for one hour before we poured the first glass. It was very dark ruby in colour and offered plum, cherry, blackberry, blueberry, cedar and chocolate on the nose. On the palate the wine showed cherry, some plum, blackberry, blueberry, coffee, chocolate, some vanilla and some oak spiciness, paired with surprisingly good acidity for the vintage (medium-plus), medium-plus ripe, sweet tannin and very good length. The full- to medium-bodied wine was very round, ripe and heavily oak-influenced. A modern and international-style wine. Very good and well-made in its category, but to me it lacked personality. Also, I found it difficult to pinpoint it as Brunello. Drink now through 2016. I would recommend decanting for 1.5 hours.

Actually quite disappointing. The fruit is too dark and the wine stands as a flat version of a Brunello without any interesting acidity. The is well-made but really uninteresting. After a lot of disappointments with this producer I will no longer buy any of their wines as I do not see any potential in these wines. Perhaps except the Oro riserva which still is stunning in most vintages.
Update: After retasting the day after opening the bottle my impressions were a little bit better. However the main problem I have with most of the wines from Banfi is that they are too smooth and lacks edges and even personality.

Nice with lots of interesting flavor. Dark fruit with herbal/barnyard. Medium tannins. Drinking well and tastes like it will have some more longevity.

Un beau brunello bien enveloppé. Acidité présente mais non dérangeante. Cher.

Very elegant and earty, austere and dry. Great fruit intensity and quality. Beautiful acidity. A tiny little bit light; and mass produced.
