medium red with bricking rim, cherries, pine needles and underbrush on the nose, on the palate glowing wild cherries- aged and elegant with a marvelous persistence, moss, soft bramble, forest floor, a really beautiful wine, relaxing, succulent, sublime, at the end of a tasting populated by titans and big personalities- this shone brightly for being simply beautiful and just right in every little way.

Brick on edges. Not much of a nose. Very hard to coax a nose out of it. On palate more balance than I expected. Some freshness that wasn’t expected and nice old leather notes. I probably should have opened 5 yrs ago

After several disappointments finally hit a good one with the last bottle. PnP and right away greeted with mature fruit and herbs on wide open aromatics. Smooth and silky with good grip focus and a lingering finish. Very enjoyable bottle of mature CNDP that was just super tasty.

Absolutely in the wheelhouse. Our last bottle might have been a bit dumb, a couple of years ago. This was just singing tonight. Paired with Rosalie’s pork stew, perfect. Lots of depth of flavor, didn’t need much time to open out. I’m sure it could go longer, but I can’t imagine it getting much better than this.

Fully mature, this elegant, soft, spicy, kirsch filled wine does not want further aging. Medium bodied, earthy, and with a red, berry character, there is no reason not to be popping cork on this today.

Dark ruby and clear. Pleasant nose, although a little restrained. Ripe fruit, velvety texture, with a touch of grip and very good balance. The wine is in a good place now and should hold up for a while longer.

Perfect cork. Popped and poured. Nothing wrong here. Fruit is faded. Balanced with tell tale CDP herbs and brambly fruits. Just muted. No ripeness of a matured vintage. I've actually enjoyed the 2008 and 2009 Mont Redon as much.

The wife and I loved this. Elegant and stylish, with great Provencal herb notes in a medium-bodied and well-delineated package. Sweetish and fruit forward on entry, and finishes dry and longish. True to its origins, this is pre-Parkerized. Lovely. This bottle pop and pour, no decant or slow ox necessary, this is good to go now, and for another few years.

Mont Redon is a very particular estate as most of the wines produced there is intended to be sold through hyper-market and national retailers such as the (terrible) Nicolas -I’m not trying to be defamatory here, just stating the obvious: little choice, high prices…-. Yet, if one visits the estate, he will be able to purchase some old vintages (I’ve bought a 1978 once) for reasonable prices. This is true for all the old, familial estates in Chateauneuf du Pape actually. This 1998 showing was quite interesting as it was strict and straightforward, but with a great delineation. Under its amber-ish, tern, yet lively robe was a light and tacit nose, offering an evolved fruit portfolio with an insertions of some cooked apples and pears; and, of course, its load of Provençal spices. This dramatically improved over the course of an hour, so I would recommend to slow-ox this before service. 90 points

Lovely perfumed nose of mature dark fruit, blackberries and prunes, as well as herbs and garrigue. The palate has the same taste profile as the nose and it's well balanced and elegant, though it lacks the concentration and persistance one might expect from the vintage. An attractive, traditional CDP, worth buying at around 30 euros. Drink now. I rate this at 90, but my girlf thinks it's 92.

Light ruby turning to brick. Nose of ripe black cherries, plums and red fruit. Palate very grenache (rather than syrah), sweet red fruit, quite tannic, firm grip, silky and medium-bodied. Nothing wrong with this bottle, nothing wrong with this wine!

Sorry, I tried. I hate Chateauneuf and this producer was recommended by John Gilman and others as more of a traditional expression that would appeal to people who can't stand the Parkerized shit. Unfortunately it still tastes like Chateauneuf. I sort of get the attraction because it had a relatively silky palate presence when consumed with food, but on its own it was still syrupy with something about it that made me wince.

Very nice at open, but it never developed. Would have expected more, but maybe will come around in time. It seemed a little closed in, but when tasted the next day seemed to have lost sense of terroir and intensity.

This is my first non-flawed bottle of this wine. That said, it is time to drink these up and my remaining bottle will not see the Spring of 2010. Pleasant aromatics without the earthy funkiness that I often associate with CdP. Lighter bodied with a gap in the mid-palate. The finish is relatively short. My overall impression is a "soft" wine with tannins having departed a couple of years ago.

A nice perfumed nose of kirsch, plums, and leather. Full on the palate with a nice spicy and lingering finish. Much better than previous few bottles this is a fine chateauneuf that is firing on all cylinders. A great buy a few months ago for $30. Wish I could find more.

Nice nose of cherry and plums. The tannins really come out after 20 or do minutes of being open. A little to dimensional (fruit and tannin) with not much elso going on. Still a good but not great Chateauneuf

From Magnum in Cassis. I have not been especially kind to the recent wines of Mont-Redon. But this was a very nice CdP. Opened and decanted one hour before dinner. Nice nose of plum, blackberry and a hint of leather Palate of plum, plum, plum with a incredible chewy feel on the tongue. Long, long finish that brought oooh's and ahhh's from all at dinner.

With Steve and Ted. I have had very mixed luck with this wine. This one is a good bottle in comparison to the previous two that were green, stemmy, and just plain unpleasant (tossed both of them). This shows very light bricking, on the nose slightly stewed red tomato and plum with a little bit of garrigue. Palate is also a little over the top for me, showing the stewed quality I picked up on the nose, a middle weight mid-palate of red and black fruit tending to the latter, and a medium length finish that borders on being overripe, though avoids being totally excessive. A little more heat than I like. This is the kind of wine that I probably would have loved ten years ago and that has led me towards burgundy. Not offensive but no longer my style.

Drank this at a Rhone wine tasting with some notable CDPs: 2001 Chateau de Beaucastel CDP 2000 Roger Sabon CDP 1998 Chateau Mont - Redon CDP 1995 Reserve des Celestins Reserve CDP 1990 Bosquet des Papes CDP. Decanted for 1/2 hour, and still had a residue of cork on the nose, which dissipated over the next hour. Compared to many of the others, this was a bit softer, with less obvious pepper overtunes. Closest to the Chateau de Beucastel -- pretty company at about 1/2 the price.

An above average Châteauneuf-du-Pape with a nice nose of complexity. It finishes off with too much alcohol and seem to lack fruit compared to some of the other 98s tasted at the same time, though (e.g. Font de Michelle cuvée Etienne Gonnet). Drink soon.

A bright reddish purple this is drinking wonderfully now. Black currant, bilberry, a touch of violet carmel and some smoke. A lovely wine with a nice chewy texture. The alcohol is just a touch high otherwise this could have been a 93-94.

($32) Electric rose in the glass, fairly light and translucent. Floral, earthy nose. Medium-full bodied with ripe sweet strawberry, raspberry fruit. Good concentration with acidity on the finish. Very nice, but a bit lighter than I was expecting. Restaurant tasting, decanted at the table.
