Thick sediment on the bottles side. Dark bluish black color, sweet fruit that is flooded by the oak. Plum and prominent vanilla from the oak. Full bodied and medium length. Somewhat bitter finish due to oak.

89. Big, black fruits. Tannins big but somewhat balanced. Enjoyable as very good table wine. (Doris 91. Cherry, jammy, sweet. Enjoys big Shiraz Ausie wines)

Decanted for about an hour before a meal of braised lamb shank and spring vegetables. Deep purple color, minty lavender nose. Before the meal, the wine had an overly acid and candy-like fruit, but the wine improved after we coated our mouths with sheep fat, revealing more subtle herbal and pepper flavor and strong but good-natured tannin. A saucy, enjoyable effort that should drink well for a few more years. Good QPR ($15 or so at Costco).

Popped and poured. Easy drinking wine with the typical over-extraction of fruit that Aussie Shiraz is known for. It had a nose and palate of cherry and vanilla - definitely over-oaked. If you enjoy Aussie style shiraz, for $16 it is not a bad wine.

This is a jammy but simple fruit bomb. A bit thin for my taste and lacks the structure to be a "great wine". Perfect for the backyard BBQ or the guilt-free football game.

It was great to see Peter Barry today after many years. Great to catch up with an old friend and taste some non-spoofulated (a new word for Peter) family-made Aussie wines. Dark purple color. Nice nose of white pepper, black fruit, and vanilla. Solid core of fruit but still a little tightly wound with nice bracing tannin and minerality going on through the finish. A great value at $20 or so, showing depth, power, and balance.

Really a surprise for Jim Barry to have a more restrained wine! The nose gave little away except cedar and red berries. On the palate, more complex with the addition of cinnamon and a touch of coffee.

Big, jammy, full of fruit with some spice that comes through after it's had time to open up. This is what value-Aussie-Shiraz used to be! Great QPR for lovers of big new world wines.

On the nose this wine has cedar, dark fruit, anise, and vanilla. On the palate black cherry for days, vanilla, maybe a little hot and strong cedar/oak. I would say the wine got a little heavy and tiresome as the night wore on (didn't change just got a little old), but still very good
I got this for $12 at Costco. For that price this wine is awesome.

Straight from the bottle (a mistake) - A real fruit bomb on the nose and quite tannic when first tasted. Started to settle after 30 minutes, mellowed out and dark berries with a touch of spice started coming through. I will decant next time and leave for an hour. Should have a good life. Definitely a good value wine

Shared a bottle with Trish & Mike at Vino Paradiso. Sweet nose of blueberry and chocolate, following to the palate with a long finish of bitter chocolate and alcohol. Fairly tasty and with BIG flavors, I got the impression that this was holding back a bit on the mid-palate. It was just starting to show nicely when the bottle was finished...

Very closed on day one, but on the second day it really opened up with sweet berry aromas, a sleek refined palate and a nice finish. Not a fruit bomb at all. Hold or decant extensively.

Deep ruby with tight nose of red and dark fruit, greenery, cedar and some anise. Medium body with crisp acid, medium round tannins and flavorful red and dark fruit, spice/pepper and some heat. Medium finish. A bit acidic and slightly out of balance. Got boozy.

purchased at Costco for $19, paid way too much...light shiraz with a touch of lime, reminded me of the failed attempts from Miller Light and Bud Light to compete with Dos Equis, etc...truly awful on day two, another failure of my under $20 search

Required decanting and a lot of time to reveal ripe fig cake, licorice, dried boysenberry and CdP-like hot stone notes. Rich, ripe, and very full on the palate - this is lush and seamless, but very alcoholic. Integrated tannin, and not too much oak. A solid effort.

First night showed dark fruit on nose and inky color. Palate was best described as attempting to drink a glass of wood chips (angular, sharp, and very tannic). Fruit was there, but was playing second, third, or fourth fiddle. It was the antithesis of round and smooth. Night two this was like a different wine. My how a day or so of air time can change things. The fruit showed up and the wine smoothed out considerably. This was a bit painful to drink on night one, but actually pretty good on day 2. Overall 86 (80 or so day 1 and 88 or so day 2)

Deep purple in colour, this wine showed intense blackcurrant, blackberry and plum aromas on the nose. The palate was fresh and fruity - summer berry pudding, creamy vanilla, liquorice and a hint of spice. Doesn't have the complexity of McRae wood, but still very nice.

Jammy wine. Not unpleasant, but a a fruit-bomb in character which caused it to feel unbalanced and out of character for an Australian shiraz.
