As I struggled mightily to extract the cork, I could hear my wife mumble: "See? You always wait too long!" I was worried, thinking she might just be correct. Once the cork was out and there was some wine in the glass, it was clear that her hasty assessment was off-base. This was an impressive wine with good fruit solid depth. Really nice. My wife, who tries her best around wine, claimed that this is one of the best cabs she has had in a long time. She stated: "I like this! It does not taste like a bag of dried cherries. It does not cling to the back of your throat like jam. I'd give it at least a 95. While I am not as effusive about this wine, it is pretty darn good. A bit vegetal on the nose, but a perfect pairing with the Tri-Tip.

Fill into neck, cork fully stained on one side, with dried residue on top. Allowed to breathe in glass 20 minutes before tasting. Clear deep dark garnet-blood-ruby. "Funky" bouquet of meat and saddle soap that subsided after an hour to reveal some stewed red plums melded with oak and bitter herbs. Past prime, possibly heat damaged.

Gentle and gracious, with plenty of restrained, balanced fruit. More savory than racy, no edges, a real treat.
