  • Last bottle of case. Held for 8 years. Maybe a bit to long. Lost some of the smoothness in prior bottles.

  • perhaps the finest bottle to date. this has really benefited from the cellar time. 5.5 hrs of slow ox (lot's of sediment still) Rich aromatics of red and black fruit and lots of chocolate notes with some coffee as well. Modern, Medium body, velvety & smooth nice balance and again a real crowd pleasing personality. At a very nice place right now.

  • less tight than earlier in its life; touch of smoke, black cherry and tobacco, nice long finish, fruit is going, better younger; tannins ok, but fruit may not support much more aging. oak and toast and smoke.

  • This was my last bottle of this wine and it was really showing well. From the outstanding 1998 vintage. Nice round nose. Medium to full bodied. Notes of primary red fruit with black pepper and crushed grape skin. Good concentration and a long finish. We took this to an Argentinian Steakhouse and it was wonderful with the grilled meats. Well made wine and a great deal based upon the $14 I paid on release. 91 points.

  • From memory made Wine Spectator's Top 100 wines in it's year of release. Travelling quiet nicely and still has a few years in front of it. Very dark in the glass. Aroma's of black plum, berries, licorice and vanillia filled the nostils. Very balanced wine with silky tannins and a great mouth feel, but not overly complex. This is one budget 1998 wine that is not falling over!

  • Lovely dark red/blue. Wonderful sweet nose of plump blackberries & blueberries, chocolate splash, & gently unobtrusive oak spice. Has lost that bright nose of a young wine - nearer mahogony than teak, if you know what I mean. The palate doesn't quite live up to the promise - the tannins have softened considerably, and the fruit flavours are rich and full, but the acid has faded somewhat. It's a bit fruit-jubey, and lacks the last word in sophistication. Moderate length finish. I have to say though, that for the $15-odd this cost when new, it's absolutely outstanding. Drinking nicely and will hold for some time, I suspect.

  • This was indeed a wonderful wine. It lived up to all the advance billing given to it by the Wine Spectator last year. It was full bodied, lasted on the palate. Nancy said she found hints of chocolate. I just loved the deep, full berry flavor. I wish

  • WS #43 wine of 2001. Inky red in color. Aromas of berry and meat. A rich complex wine which has a full mouth feel. Slight chocolate character. Better and more substantial than the 1997. Full bodied with smooth tannins. Will age.
