  • Wild, brambly blackberry on the nose and palate. I don't think I've ever had a Cab that leans so hard into that. That's also some huge clue about how this 29 year old Cab is carrying along. Barely any bricking and the only thing to really show for the age is the more sedate and lean palate. The fruit character is primary but the feel is drifting into secondary. Color is not. Darkly opaque still. Some tannin still. Goo acidity though there is some tartness. There is an odd sort of 'paint' thing lingering the background. Even overnight. I've noticed that in very young, fruit forward wines. Never in a wine so old. Almost no classic secondary Can notes. This is a fruit show. A tasty drink in any case. Nary a note of fade overnight. Remarkable how these live. Atypical yet still very good.

  • In the same range as the last bottle. There is a niceplum and herb profile here, but at this point the American oak just overwhelms the fruit. Nuances of the wine were there, but oak was hard to escape.

  • Opens up almost boozy in its ripeness and needs decanting to settle down. Once properly open there is a nice Plummy cabernet here with sage, green pepper and gingerbread notes.

Ready to drink up. I would not wait on these much longer.

  • Beet red color in the glass, nose of smoke, earth, dust, cassis, and mushy black cherry fruit, more of the same on the palate, hints of rich gunpowder tea on the mid palate, opened to raspberry fruit after ten minutes, medium body, soothing, continued to open nicely, medium finish. Drink up. Tasted this and three other Kennedy cabernets with Kathryn many years ago and bought this bottle that day. Thank you Kathryn for the wine and the memories.

  • Still has some fairly strong color. Decanted for almost two hours. Not a whole lot going on in the nose. Some lead pencil shavings, cassis. Lots of acid still left on the palate but not a whole lot going on. I had this on release and it was brilliant. This bottle is only so-so.

  • Tasted at the Kathryn Kennedy dinner hosted by Otis. What a pleasure to be able to taste these wines. In tasting the vertical, you could defintiely see certain characteristics appear every vintage, defining a style. All of the KK wines were very elegant.

This was my favorite of the night. Ruby colored, with notes of mint and beef/meat. Ligter bodied than the '89. Lots of plum and very fine tannins - great stuff.

  • Kathryn Kennedy Estate Cab Vertical Dinner: My 2nd favorite of the night. Velvety fruit with notes of cherry. Probably the most elegant of the KK wines. Round on the palate and balanced. The finish just seems to grow and grow. 93 points.

  • Purchased in February from America's Wine Shop for $60. Opened 2 hours before drinking, but not decanted. The most elegant KK on the table, but also possessed some charming rusticity with leather and grilled meat notes. Intense currant fruit that, with air, developed into a long and seductive wave of savory flavor. Still enough tannin to age for another 5 years, but delicious now.
