Opened the first of three last night with grilled Tenderloin. Wonderful mature cab. Perfect balance of dark fruits, earth and smoke. Tannin smooth. This wine is drinking beautifully right now. Drink or hold. Dehlinger is a class act.

Wedding Week; 8/16/2017-8/20/2017 (Fremont, CA): Briefer than usual impressions: This flipped from my last taste. From my previous experience, I liked the Claret better, but this time the Cab had less obvious oak, though still modern styled. Overall well balanced. A great party wine, as everyone loved the style and recognized the producer, but perhaps not what I would drink on a regular basis. 89

Dark fruit, spice and a leather finish that goes on and on. This is a massive showing from Sonoma. A complex palate, with tannins largely resolved. Has wonderful balance, depth and complexity with plenty of life remaining, but drinking near peak. Decant generously and enjoy!

Thought I would check in on this on a cold snowy evening. Lovely nose of dark fruit, camphor, leather and peppery spice. Beautiful restrained dark fruit, leather and vibrant acidity on the palate. Tannins still very present and youthful, probably could benefit from a decant, but not getting in the way of enjoying this beautiful wine. Still has a long life ahead of it.

Corovin first pour. Amazing, explosive nose coming out of the coravin, wow! Zero sign of age in the color. Cassis, sandlewood on the nose. Smooth, fully balanced on the palate. Medium bodied. Plenty of structure that is largely resolved 11+ years in. Beautiful on the palate, nice bit of oak...a bit. Nice bit of acid, but no sharp edges. Bit of stem or menthol, nicely done. Decent finish. All in, spectacular. Seems old school, label says 14.9%, Beautiful classically-styled California Cab. After three coravin half-pours, I feel the same way. So much life left, but drinking so well now. No hurry...but so good...loved this wine in 2011 note below, remarkably consistent.

For a while I was on the Dehlinger distribution list and this was my last bottle. I think I didn't handle it well, with a few moves and some spotty storage. Maybe the first mediocre bottle from Dehlinger so I am taking the blame. This bottle has some alcohol on the finish and the fruit seems lean compared to previous bottles. Still drinkable with black mellow fruit and soft tannins.

Deep ruby without bricking; nose is moderately aromatic with ripe high-toned blackberry, significant minerality, very slight heat, a little plummy; palate is full bodied, initially atypically thin but then some black fruit fleshes out the palate, still somewhat one-dimensional on the palate, medium tannins still somewhat present, very slight heat (14.9%); medium finish. This is an odd wine that seems disjointed throughout, trying to ride a balance between modernist and traditional (though more modern) without hitting the strengths of either. I said the same thing about the 05 Claret. At the moment, I blame the vintage given that I've liked this house's Pinot and Syrah in the past, though I haven't tried many different vintages of the Claret and Cab to know for sure. 85-86

Still youthful (11 years on, typical Dehlinger Cab!), but drinking really well right now. Give this 2-4 (minimum two) hours of air to open it up. Very smooth with dark fruit flavors and what I call the "Dehlinger Dirt". From my first taste of Dehlinger (in 1984!) to today, I have always gotten a very distinctive flavor essence that seems to exemplify the term "terrior". It's hard to describe, but you know it when you taste it. Hard to predict longevity, but if you don't drink now, it seems this could go another 5 years easy.
8/9/16 update (kept on nitrogen): I've had two glasses, on separate occasions, since my original review. It seems 1-2 hours of air is best...it's a tad one-dimensional and somewhat monolithic...if I had another bottle I'd wait a few years before trying again. It's good, but this suffers when compared to the far superior 2002 and 2003 vintages.

Dark in color, excellent balance, Bordeaux like. Tannins are minimal. Fruit is still evident. Dark fruits, with some herbs. Nice long finish. This was an excellent example of CA cabernet.

Deep purple/black in color. An excellent bottle with a Bordeaux like quality with an incredibly smooth and full finish. A hint of spice box with plum, blackberry dark fruit core. An excellent bottle and highly recommended. One more quick note....it was my last and only bottle and had some sediment so I would recommend straining through a Vinturi. We had it as a pop and pour in the restaurant.

4th Saturday Group brown bagger (Sue & Mike's): Crimson color. Notes of blackberry, plum and dark fruit with herbal, green undertones. Balanced, with medium tannins and flavors of dark fruit and herbs on the palate. Finishes very well.

PnP. Blaine (8/12/2011) nailed this. Lush and rich without overpowering. Fine and well integrated tannins but still has an edge to it. Cassis and cedar with pronounced pine needles in the nose. This should age wonderfully for 10 years.

Absolutely spectacular. Playing way above its price point. Pop and pour, singing almost immediately. Medium dense color. Big nose of tar, cigar box, sandlewood. On the palate, lush without being overpowering, plenty of fruit, impeccably balanced, accessible tannins but enough for years to come. Not massively structured, but firm enough with a bit of an acidic backbone. Long finish. Opened up even more after about 15 minutes. Best Dehlinger in a while for me, best cab from them ever. No hurry, but no need to wait either.

Decanted and pour a short sip. Nose was all tar, black licorice and leather. Pretty tight in the mouth. After an hour or so it started opening up nicely and got oohs and ahhs from everyone at the table. Silky silky smooth. A real treat. Got one more bottle and it will be hard to keep my hands off it now.

Getting there .. give it lots of air and you will be rewarded. Well balanced, structure, length, fruit, oak all there and in balance ... especially the oak is restrained but present. Definitely one of the better Cali Cabs. This WILL get better with age ... would not be surprised if this one jumps in a few years to 94 or higher ...

Lucious, deep earthy nose is followed by flavors of creamy currant, blackberry, dill and sweet oak through medium body. Shortish finish is a reprise of the midpalate fruit. If this fleshes out with bottle age this could be special. 91+

Tight upon opening. Cab fruit hidden with forest/earth with tight profile, still somewhat young and tart. After several hours (and next day as well), became much more balanced -- fruit was beautifully expressive and wonderfully smooth. Definitely has stuffing to last longer.

Very expressive nose with black currant, casis and a hint of leather. The palate follows through with those flavors and adds a noticeable minerality that lessens the fruit notes slightly. Good acidity and structure that went well with a beautiful steak,

This wine is way too young -- hence no score. I will not even try to open another bottle for at least 5+ years. But it shows a lot of promise, with balanced fruit and good levels of acidity. It's just not really integrated yet and way to rough around the edges. Time will tell how good this wine can be.

I just love the Cabs that Dehlinger turns out. I don't think I've ever had an unenjoyable Cab bottling from them. I like the Pinots, Syrahs, and the Estate Chard, but I'm starting to think that the Cabs take the cake. This was good right from the start. The nose was predominantly of bell pepper and tobacco with hints of bright berry and some slight, slight vanilla. The palate has more fruit than the nose -- berry and currant flavors predominate -- but there is some earthiness and a bit of a herb quality. The tannins are soft and the acidity is well integrated. I think it's a bit on the riper end of the spectrum but far from overly so. Just a joy to drink.

Remarkably pure expression of cabernet. Clean and complete notes of cassis and black fruit, pleasantly unadulterated by new oak. Baloons up in the decanter, delivering a rich, round, opulent texture. Well balanced, with soft tannin, including enough acid for mid term cellaring. Like most 05's, this is approachable now, but time should complicate and improve the experience.

Took some time to open up on the aromatics which are more on the Bordeaux side. At first I found this wine enjoyable but nothing special. Slightly interesting sweet fruit, solid tannin and some rich dark chocolate on the finish. As it developed, the middle had vegetables, herbs and bitter chocolate. On the under-ripe side. Nice length. Long mineraly finish. I enjoyed this wine but I didn’t get the sense it would ever be “great” but only time will tell that.

Deep color with a thickness that is apparent sitting in the glass. Classic cabernet nose with some tobacco and a real lusty, berry richness. The palate is young, tart but very mouthfilling. Finishes dry with a good persistence. I quite like this, it is very young, but has a volume and structure greater than previous Dehlinger Cabs. I think this needs to sit for several years, but should evolve into a fantastic wine with some bottle age.
