These lads are like twins separated at birth, despite both bottles being wrapped and blinded, both @SKT and WMK brought the identical same magnum!
I found many modern BdMs to be non ready for drinking, but this 2007 magnum showed nice rounded tannins with balanced acidity levels.
Fruit forward style with cherries and raspberries, pleasant freshness, and a rounded med-long finish but just not special enough.
Seems no one knows the true origins of Caparzo! In the end of the 1960s, a group of friends purchased these parcels of vineyards.
Some years later in 1998.. Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini purchased Caparzo, and ran this winery with Igino and Allesandra.
Brunello di Montalcino (BdM) wines are known to be bold, with high levels of tannin and strong acid levels. This is due in part to the thick skinned local grapes, known as Brunello or Sangiovese Grosso.
Bottles 7 and 8 of 10, Mikas birthday at Yik Kee in Taman Tun KL. All the best, lads!

For me, in a good spot. Nose still somewhat tightly wound, dark fruit - black cherry, black raspberry forest floor, woody notes still there. Palate balanced - enough acid to support a freshness of fruit. Tannins still very present - and threaten to outlast the fruit. Would like to see a bit better integration of oak. Paired nicely with a grilled ribeye and balsamic mushrooms.

A fun wine. Good brunello character, but not particularly strong or powerful. Bit of an acid bite at the end, and it's not very long. Pleasant wine, but I'm glad I didn't pay more than $30 for it.

Color is still dark crimson, opaque with no real bricking yet. Nose has typical floral (rose) notes with vanilla bean and a hint of tar/tobacco. Very soft on the initial pallate, but light tannins come in towards the finish with a cherry tartness. A hint of blackberry fruit, again with some tartness. Long finish with more notes of tobacco and leather.

Bright, somewhat tannic, with decent fruit and nicely fragrant. Gained substantial weight after two days in 375, but lost the initial delicacy. Seemed best after 1+ hours of decant when the acidity was still bright. Good, but not very complex.

Cherries and chocolate on nose. Cherries and pencil lead on palate. Medium tannins with good acidity. Paired well with spaghetti bolognese with Italian sausage. Should be good for a few more years.

MM’s belayed birthday; a mixed set of whites, reds, and sweet wines. (@ MM): In the bouquet lovage, caramel, leather, coffee and chocolate. On the palate red berries and cherries, some herbs and spices and smoke, firm acidity. Round tannin. Quite mature and not sure if this bottle has been properly stored. No score.

- It's balanced with a light/medium body. Narrow texture with a short finish - Nice Brunello. Drank out of bottle without decanting. Improved over the two hrs it was open. It had an earthy nose to it, but drank smoothly with moderate fruit flavored. The finish wasn't long, but was very clean. I liked this wine a lot and thought it a great value.

Unexpectedly far in its ageing stage. Brick ruby, slow legs. Heady bouquet of ripe poached red cherries and strawberries, leather, pencil shavings, amaro-like. Palate underdelivers, acidity keeping it together but really not much going on. Storage issues, I guess. Pity

Liking this quite a bit for and entry level Brunello at $30. Overall, good balance of fruit, acid, minerality/earth. This initially has earth and forest floor on the nose along with cherry. Fairly light in color (like Pinot), with a nice mid-weight texture, and no signs of alcohol at all. I'm sure this can improve with a couple more years of cellaring, but it is well balanced and pretty smooth now. Works well with food and seems pretty versatile. The tannins are there but not too aggressive and not green or bitter. Will probably buy some more of these for near term drinking while some of the bigger boys that I have purchased from 06 and 07 sleep in the cellar. Well made and worth trying.

The nose lets you know you are in Italy. Muted fruits of dark plum, sour cherries but no real berry flavors and oak with some tannic influence. This could have used decanting as we popped an poured and I felt we got a muted response to what this wine could offer with more air and warming to room temperature over 8 hours or so.

I know this is an entry level BdM, so my expectations should not be high. Decanted for 4 hours prior to consumption, this wine was very boring. Nose: grapes. Palate: more grapes. Tannins absent, so I don't know how this gets better with age. You might be thinking, as I have been told by a snobbish Napa wine proprietor, that I have a crap palate or that my palate was impaired. I had SMWS 2.74 (Glenlivet) for dessert and it had four distinct flavor layers. Outstanding whisky that helped to put this wine into an even bleaker perspective.

We let this decant for about an hr prior to tasting and having had this before it helped a lot. Cherry, raspberry, plum and a touch of leather on the nose. The tannins were tight but manageable and didn't overwhelm. The finish was very nice and added to the experience. Really bright red fruit notes on the notes on the finish and overall a solid wine that pairs well with a hearty pasta or a tenderloin.

2 years oak (?), has that old world Brunello nose and style, but not overly so. Definitely oak is showing as well. Nice acidity. Fruit very light, needs to come out, probably better with food. Earth is light, strong cedar note that lingers into the finish with a leather addition. Medium bodied, not huge. Tannins med plus. This could have some development down the road. We popped and poured.

Nose: Slightly Muted upon the open showing mostly alcohol, but after an hour in the decanter it grew more perfumed with lilac and dark fruit. Blackberry and Stewed Cherries were prominent. Palate: Nice feel with medium weight and a silky personality. Had to aerate this a lot to see all that is in this wine. Cherry, Raspberry, Red Currant, Tobacco, Clove and an almost blood orange flavor. Finish: Shorter than expected, but certainly not bad. Needs some time in the cellar.

Brunello Di Montalcino had two great vintages in 2006 & 2007. This is 100% Sangiovese and had a very nice nose of fresh red fruit and dark cherries. It seemed to be full of pepper and the elements were nicely blended with tannins and acidity. The finish was mid length. This paired very well with a nice mild Mediterranean dinner at Mariciano's in Memphis.

Bought this wine in October 2012 in a small shop in montereggioni, Italy for 25 €. Nice nose, elegant, medium to low length. However, a very gentle, round wine with nothing to miss than a bit of strength. Its an ideal Beginner wine. I had the Rosso from the same year (regular as well as the La Catuda) and both were very well made. It seems that Caparzo has done a lot of things right with the year 2007. I only bought one bottle. I guess it wont last long enough to put it into my cellar for a long time. But whenever you need a very well made easy to drink pnp Brunello with a good qpr without waiting, this is the one for you.

Fine and sappy red fruit aromas. Dried fruit. Fresh and alive on the palate, but sappy red fruit follows here too. Dried fruits. Palate feels very text book. Med/+ tannin and a dark edge, lead pencil. Day 3. Ah, really popping on the palate. Not much different as I look back at day 1, but just got a little jive tonight.

The wine had a very fragrant nose of cherries. Very dark color. A medium bodied wine, tasted initially of earth, some leather and very dark fruits, was very tight, with somewhat harsh tannins upon opening after having been decanted for perhaps 20-30 minutes. After the wine sat in glass awhile, it opened up to reveal much more fruit (cherries mostly) as well as more earthy, leather qualities. The tannins softened quite a bit to reveal oak that had been hiding initially. At first the wine struck me as a traditional style brunello but over time showed to be more open, with fairly obvious hints of oak. A very pleasant wine that will certainly improve over the next few years.

Drinking well now. Very smooth and flavorful. This offers raspberries, cigar, subtle spices and earth. Medium finish and not tannic in the least. I would not hold these that long as I don't see a long aging potential.

I like this wine. Slightly acidic, which I like, medium bodied with nice cherry flavors. Definitely going to keep in cellar and try again...we may have opened a bit soon. Can't wait to see what a lil time will do with this wine.

Muddled, confused nose has me thinking somebody screwed up on the wood. Some underlying mint. Light in the mouth and uneventful. Disappointing.

Complex and integrated cherry, orange marmalade, clay and leather nose. Med-full bodied with good flavours and balance. Long, savoury finish.

Pleasant, mellow scented sangiovese, lightly oaked, which I prefer. Short finish, pairs well with food.

Dried dark fruit nose but subtle. Nicely balanced fruit, acidity, and soft tannins.

Good not great. Dark almost blackish color. Nose of berries / black cherry with some earthy / herby notes. Palette was medium to light bodied, nice acidity, medium finish, but a bit tight (even after an hour in glass). Think we drank this a bit too young.

Medium light red. Great nose on this one, cherry, earth and some ripeness but in control. Slight richness in the mouth and an oh so very tannic finish. Maybe the best of the 07s I tasted.

This is a solid but unspectacular BdM which loses its luster with the higher price.
