A full bodied and deep dark red colored wine with concentrated taste of dark red mature fruit. A well balanced wine with still enough tannins and acidity to balance the power of all the fruit. The 2005 is much more powerful and fruity than the 2004, and a better balanced wine. The wine has a long and some spicy tones in the aftertaste.

Dark garnet. Nose of dust, mint, licorice, and black cherry. Ripe juicy palate of black cherry, blackberry, vanilla, and minerals. Good length. Bright acidity. Minimal tannins. An interesting and tasty wine. Not as good as the '04 La Grola.

I haven't had a bottle of this since July 2011 (see 7/17/11 note). Dark garnet with a brick tint. Nose of leather, black cherry, earth, and smoke. Ripe palate of juicy black cherry, plum, blackberry, and minerals. Pleasant acidity. Mild tannins. This is a very good balanced, wine from the Veneto.

This wine has improved substantially since the last time I had it. It still possesses blueberrry but more of the raisiny flavor is present which I find in good Ripasso or...dare I say Amarone. Shared wth friends and we were all pleasantly surprised given the fact I we didn't expect much. Great quaffer!

It has been over 6 months since I had one of these. Dark garnet. Nose of smoke and black cherry. Medium palate of blackberry and a little cherry. Interesting savory component. Very good length. Nice acidity. Subtle oak. Mild tannins. Very good and interesting wine that is missing the "it factor" of the '04. Quite food-friendly. I'm not sure it will improve with more time in the cellar.

This drinks like a very simply valpolicella. There is nothing offensive about this wine...just so simple. Soft blueberry flavors flow through this light to medium bodied wine. I was hoping for a bit more from Allegrini but they can't all be winners. The nose almost makes up for the lack of depth.

Better tonight than the last two bottles (see earlier notes for details). This is developing into a delicate, earthy, interesting wine. Nicely balanced. Very good to excellent. Hopefully, it will continue to improve, since I have 7 more bottles. I just bought a bottle of the '06 to try.

At Wijn Antiq AMS (blind tasting, theme Tuscany). Dark colour. Between the Tuscans this attractive sweet ripe fruits driven wine. Earth tones. Also in the nose thick ripe fruits, pepper and some fennel.

Double decantered about 1.5h before drinking. At first taste, a very elegant wine. Wee bit low on concentration, but perfumed, silky and had a decent length. Lacks a bit of acidity, but still a real pleasure to drink. Would've been beautiful last year as was my experience with an earlier bottle. Unlike the other reviews here though, the wine did not evolve well after about 2.5h.

Nose of dark (bitter) cherry, blackcurrant and spices. Displays good "terroir" with definitive Valpolicella style despite the unconventional grape mix. Fairly elegant, high acidity, lots of dry tannins.

Nose - Lots of fruit, cherry. Body - Very full, thick. Palette - Not very much tannin. Very fruity; cherry, plum. Not much structure. Just a fruit bomb.

I loved the 2004 La Grola. I'm running out, so I purchased a case of the critically praised 2005. Opened a bottle tonight with dinner. Purple with ruby rim. At first, a funky moldy nose I didn't like. It blew off in a while. Nose of black cherry, cedar and smoke. Fruit forward palate of red and dark fruit. Pleasant acidity. Decent length. Mild tannins. Very good, but I had hoped for better. Maybe next bottle.....

Dark red in color...Nose: Goood fruit but tastes a bit fake to me, tobacco and a hint of earth...Palate: Dark fruit, mint and earthy notes..Pretty straight foward juice that lacks complexity. Would not buy again...

1 hour decant. Withdrawn on the nose, with some dark berries and rolling tobacco. A very tannic wine, whose drinking window is not open yet in my opinion. Definitely not a wine one should drink without the company of food (we made a lovely pizza margherita). In view of the price not a wine to recommend, at least wait a year or preferably two and see if the tannins gets any smoother.

13.5%.Popped and poured. Dark red, purple rim. Earthy, mushroomy dark berries. Fine powdery tannins, tart, mid-palate hole. With air time fleshes out and gets rounder, hole closes up. Very good.

Deep, inky purple. Nose of plum, violets, and underbrush. Full mouth feel with a good balance. Cherry, smoke, and cedar on the palate. Easy to drink with a medium finish with some tar at the end. Very focused bouquet of flavors.
