Bottle believed to be 1988 but without vintage neck label or any sign of year on cork. Decanted briefly as cork hard to extract. Light gold in colour, the wine showed a little younger and fresher than expected. Ripe peach with elements of grapefruit, lime and quinine sat against a slightly honeyed and spiced background, with that distinctly dry slightly slatey finish, and prominent length. ****

Light to mid gold, yellow fruit, clear lime cut across an attractive cool minerality. Showing an aged patina but no rush to drink - no real tertiary signs emerging. Very enjoyable but not at the level of the 1990 ****

Deep golden colour. Bq w petroleum, minerals, yellow apples, some citrus. Medium-to-full body w fresh acidity, nice apply fruit (but still very dry). Long aftertaste w some alcohol, touch of quince. Bottle still very fresh, much better (and younger) than what we had in February.

Pale amber colour. Bq w honey, minerals, petroleum, spices. Almost full-bodied. Fruit very much old apples. Acidity still prominent, but probably receding. Dry aftertaste w some alcohol, quince. Do not serve this too cold! Has another 4-5 yeárs to go.

This wine was really faded and undistinguished.

The Best of Alsace+ 1990 Palmer and 1990 Canon La Gaffeliere (Hi-Time Wine Cellars, Costa Mesa, Ca.): Very nice, simple, pleasant, medium amount of minerals, needs more fruit, well balanced, served chilled.
