My score reflects a generous bonus for aged wine, this one was from a fellow winemakers cellar and the ullage was at the curve of the shoulder. Soft and balanced the Zinfandel soul was still there but the body was at a point of old wine. Still it worked well with Salmon.

mature, bit volatile nose, somewhat like old claret. light body, fruit a bit thinned out:like attenuated dried red fruits, unusual, interesting, and zesty flavour; high acidity, not much mid-palate complexity; slightly bitter finish.

Showing its age with a serene red fruit profile, but lacking ooomph and any real grip in the mid-palate and finish. Nothing really here to write about - nothing off or imbalanced, just a slow steady fade. And not so slowly. Elegant and stylish, but..... Drink up.

Top shoulder fill. Funky old wood nose with fresh strawberries and some toast(!) Elegantly spiced with cinnamon, red licorice, and strawberry conserve. Subtle, beautiful nose and decent palate. Yum!

Best one yet, though this bottle is more advanced. Top shoulder fill, and cork shows wine up almost, but decidely not all the way, to the top. Bordeaux profile, lots of secondaries and tertiaries - tobacco, herbs, earth, etc, with not a hint of brett (a common experience with Paul's wines). Superb light-handed mouthfeel, excellent food-friendly acidity, nice finish (could be longer, but very good). This bottle fading within the hour, but delicious until then. Drink up.

This bottle significantly more advanced. From auction, so storage may not have been as cool or pristene. Mahogany rim, deepened red and black fruit notes on the nose, that signature Ridge palate - bretty, strong earth, ripe fruit, alcohol, very nuanced, a bit of oak. Excellent, but not great, and glad I have 5 more bottles from this lot, let's see if they're similar. This bottle, drink now or soon.

ATP - 25 barrels produced. 13.6%. Muted nose and sour the first day. Then, after being open for 24 hours at cellar temperature, beginning to show well. Amazing for a dry zin of this age. Like a young pinot noir. Very bright, lifted, some alcohol notes on the nose, lots of red fruits like cranberry, pomegranite and wild cherry, some blazing acidity, not much mid-palate, some minimal satiny tannins, and a medium, maybe even shortish, slightly bitter finish. Nice, and even very fine if you like this style, which I usually do, but this is pushing the envelope. The opposite of an over-ripe, high alcohol fruit bomb, but could have used just a tiny bit more ripeness, IMO. Tastes about as close to a young Rhys PN as one can imagine. This bottle might even go another decade and surprise with more weight, becoming a true gem. Drink now and for the next 7-10 years, amazingly. An exceptional bottle really, full of learning and character. Thank you Paul for the great learning experiences drinking the passion and creativity you put in a bottle! 91 pts quality, 94 pts character.
