Very good bubbly, but perhaps not worth the price. My first Schramsberg, this is more austere than most California sparkling wines. Complex, reminding me of Champagne. Gets better as it warms, as do most good sparkling wines.

Probably the best value champagne on the market. This American sparkling wine has rich flavors of light fruit, notes of crispness and long bright finish. Wonderful Warren can’t wait to drink more.

Exploring 2018s and 2019s in Napa - Spring 2021; 4/18/2021-4/22/2021 (Napa Valley, CA): I used go enjoy this, but after visiting and exploring Champagne, I wouldn't actively choose to go back to this. Detectable residual sugar - I was surprised how sweet I found this wine to be - with notes of golden apple, pie crust, brioche, pear, pastry dough. Faint yellow in color, pleasant acidity and weight, lackluster finish. Not particularly complex.

PnP, well chilled but not cold. Clear, nice bubble stream. This is delicious stuff considering the price. Clean, bright, fruity, proper in all aspect. Great value at $30. Mike's bottle.

Aaah the standard Schramsberg BdB... The Caymus of Champagne... or rather, the Caymus of California “sparklers.” Doughy, pie crusty, lemon curdy, banana peely, creme brûléey, high dosagey, fill-your-hot-tub-with-the-tears-of-a-thousand-orphansy.... “beverage.”
Drink just BEFORE you think leaving your family for the circus is a good idea......

Light yellow color with very sporadic beady bubbles and a thin mousse. Apple pie, creme brûlée & a faint citrus aroma. Dry with tart green apple, grapefruit, apricot and a tiny bit of salted pretzel. Not the most complex but nice to drink while cooking that could go with many meals.

Dry. Acidic. Almost no fruit. I'm a big fan of sparkling wines and am pretty open to different styles, etc. This is one wine which if I'd opened at home, would have dumped down the sink. Fortunately it was at a cocktail party, I could discreetly return it to the waiter and switch to water.

Drank last nite at the Kittle House. Nose of sweet baked apples and soda. On the dry side, with notes of green apples, good acidity, some lemon/lime, and a nice streak of minerality. Not particularly long or complex, but quite nice for what it is.

It does the job, and that's about it. Don't expect too much. Profile is a bit linear and dry, with a thin citrus streak on the back end. An ok summer sipper primer before you start your meal. Otherwise, it's pretty humdrum.
I prefer the Blanc de Noir a little better.
This paired decently with sushi appetizers.

Christmas Eve Fleming's Dinner, thank you Tatiana for the glass of sparkling wine, nose of lemon/lime, nice mousse and medium size bubbles, touch of apple and soda sweetness, same on the palate, tasty, one dimensional, medium body and medium/long finish.

Another solid bottle. A tart and lemony approach with key lime and notes of baguette and a dash of salt. Refreshing, crowd-pleasing stuff that paired well with fried shrimp and fish.

The Schramsberg BdB tastes in line with its price point. However, I think at this price, there are a number of overachievers among Cali sparkling like Mumm Napa, Domaine Carneros, Roederer Estate that I enjoy more. It's a little too one note for me: lemon. But the lemon was almost like a lemon head - sour and tart.

Not a bad sparkler. Bread, citrus, copper. A bit sweet on the finish but not ridiculous. Respectable if not particularly serious. A great crowd pleaser and a nice aperitif. Good w fried foods but maybe not w more substantial fare.

Schramsbergs were the only American "champagnes" we tried at the tasting; sounds narrow-minded perhaps but in general they just don't hold a candle to the real thing. One can make an exception here though. Dulcie in particular impressed. Herbally nose, complex, citrus, tart finish. Wouldn't score it higher than a good NV champagne but not significantly lower either.

Half Bottle NV Champagne Tasting; 1/31/2009-2/1/2009 (Kirstin and Shane's): This stood out as the California imposter right away. The nose was almost herbal, with sweet lemon, a weird foot odor, and even a little saltiness. The palate was full of lemon, very crisp, but with a watery midpalate. Super sour at the end, with a pretty long finish. I don't dig sour too much, but I would drink this. Up against some 'real' champagne contenders, it was my least favorite of the flight, however.

Purchased as a split off the list at Lark Creek Steak in SF. Dry, tart with a lime+pineapple flavor profile, showed very little dough on the nose until it started to warm up. Fair to Good.
