Very thin, but a nice elegant nose for the top third of the bottle, that then completely disappeared. Very muted barely-Pinot taste. 2007 was a light vintage but was expecting more from this highly-regarded vineyard. On the points scale maybe an 88 for the top third of the bottle and below-80s for the rest.

Maybe I just got a good bottle, but there's plenty of life in this one. Solid fruit in an elegant package. Impressions of faint tannins on the finish. Very "Shea" in style. While it hasn't past over the hill, there's no reason to hold. Update: fell apart the second day.

Turrible. No redeeming quality. Thin, tasteless. I don't know if I just got a bad bottle or it is just a bad wine. It really did't taste corked or brett. Decanting did not help. Decided not to punish myself and poured most of it out.

Christmas Run; 12/24/2011-12/26/2011 (Around the Bay): This was an interesting comparison to the Rhys and Big Basin Pinots opened on Christmas and to the Gamay it was served alongside. Less difficult and defined than the Rhys with less fruit and power than the Big Basin and not as good as either, but also with more flesh and earth than the comparatively spicy 2010 Cote de Brouilly. It fit in nicely as something middle of the road that combined attractive features of the other wines and went well with Turkey Chili and other foods. Subsequent tastings point towards a jack of all trades, master of none sort of wine that had shown better at the pop and pour. 87-90? I didn't find this insipid as some others have nor is anything out of whack, but there just isn't a ton of depth or character either once you place it in its Oregon box.

overall: its rather unfortunate that this showed like this. If this was a $10-15 pinot it would be more than fine, but its not. Still, it's a nice pinot

This pinot started out with tart cherry, wet autumnal leaves and smoke notes. The body was somewhat thin with a short finish. Held overnight, and the wine transformed even more. The cherry notes were darker and savory spice emerged, especially within the aromatics. The body was also fuller even though still on the thin side. Overall, a very enjoyable pinot from a tough vintage. 90-91 pts.

2007 Shea Vineyard Tasting (Willamette Wine Storage - Portland, OR): The nose is full and delivers perfumed scents wrapped around cherries. Some funk and leather linger underneath the brighter pretty scents. This has a clean entry and a rich evolution onto the mid palate. Some really nice dark cherry flavors show on the middle. They're not terribly complex, but they are enjoyable. The mouth feel is excellent here, and some black tea, lighter acid, and balanced oak show themselves on the finish. 89+

2007 Shea vineyard comparative tasting (Willamette Wine Storage - Portland, OR): Cherry fruit on the nose, strong grape stem component, also some oak. The palate shows those cherries and light earth starting into the finish. The tannins and acidity here are on the stronger side, but where this wins is the fruit easily outlasts them on the finish, this is a really nice wine that is showing young. Pretty straight-forward flavors, but good build, intensity, and a decent promise for the future. 88+

Even with decanting 2 hours, in my opinion this wine really isn't ready for drinking yet, despite what some of the CT reviews below say. This wine is probably an 89+ with at least two years in cellar and then some decanting.
Medium ruby colour. Nose showed potential with berries and a fragrant note, maybe lavender. After an hour+ decant some cherry on the palate, hints of raspberry and strawberry and some baking spice. Fine smooth tannins are showing all the signs they will integrate into the finish but still a lot of oak showing up. Good acidity and balance.
The berry flavours really came out with food (trout sashimi, black truffle pasta) but were otherwise reticent to make an appearance at this stage of life.

Open and poured. Medium ruby, lighter on the rim. Initial nose black fruit, largely cherry & berry but tight and not especially fragrant for a Shea Vineyard Pinot. In the mouth, more cherry & raspberry but tight and any subtlety or depth obscured. Let sit open in the bottle for two hours and revisited. Better, showing more breadth & some spicy notes but still disappointing for a Shea.
I would not seek this wine out nor order off a restaurant menu where the price/value may leave you disappointed. There are many great examples of '07 Pinot from Shea Vineyards that are far better expressions of this superb Willamette estate.

Plum ruby red hue to a bright rim. Low intensity aromas with black cherry cola, minerals, sarsaparilla, dark earth and even a bit hot? Also a hairiness that comes across, lots of Pommard I'd wager; overall fairly shut down...on the palate, velvet texture with moderate acid, gentle structure, very balanced flavors, moderate + complexity and a long, slightly toasty sweet fruit finish. Flavors of black tea, savory raspberry, sweet herbs, dark earth and mocha. Lovely, complex and transparent young Pinot, would love to revisit over the next 15-20 years.

Popped and poured. Medium ruby color. Spicy plum and raspberry scents on the nose, with a measure of earthiness and camphor. Dense and persistent on the palate yet light on its feet, with flavors of blueberry, black raspberry, spicecake, soy, and licorice. Modest but sufficient acidity to keep things fresh. Oak notes unobtrusive. Finish is of moderate length, but the echo of black fruit and spice is full of character. Nicely done.

Soft and gentle, hints of earthiness, but more bing cherry at this point. Light spices on the nose, like a fine tea, and peaks of flowers in there. Pretty tight on the nose with a little oak and flowers coming through. At cellar temp, this showed an enjoyable sour cherry and balanced oak on the palate. As it warmed to room temp, the alcohol started to overtake the fruit, which is kind of surprising since the label says it's 13.2%. I would wait 6-12 months to open and would have it slightly chilled to enjoy it at it's best.

Well priced, lighter pinot with some depth and balance. Some smokey, cherry/strawberry. Nice floral bouquet.

Yamhill-Carlton District AVA tasting at The Portland Armory: This seemed to pass me by without noticing. Nose shows oak, but very light red fruits. Gritty tannins on the mid-palate with some fun-dip, and a bit grating. Similar on the finish.

Memorial Weekend Wine Tasting (Chehalem Mountains & Carlton, OR): I didn't get much from this wine...nose had some floral aspects, but not a lot of fruit and just a touch of leather/earth. In the mouth, iinitially a bit of bright fruit, and then the zing of acidity and some leather, but overall not very interesting.

Memorial Day weekend tasting, 2008 Oregon Pinot Noir barrel samples (Northern Willamette Valley): Nice spice and perfume on the nose. Very tight palate not showing much. Same on the finish, quite tight, but very smooth and seamless. If you're not paying attention this one will pass you by without you noticing.

Medium crimson color. Delicate flavors of red fruits and spice, with a light earthy note throughout. Thin midpalate, without much stuffing. Perhaps representative of the vintage.

Very complex and subtle, but not as good as previous vintages. Lower alcohol and a little "thin" in structure, without overwhelming fruit or notable terrior. Still very drinkable, and should develop a bit more in the coming months.
