  • SWE: Fragrant, petrol-gas but w. pleasant apple, backed w/lemin-peel viscous, full, low a’s; slight nutty fin.

  • This is very tasty initially, the kind of wine that will elicit oohs and ahhs from casual drinkers. Heavily oaked, so it reminds one of a Cali chard, but this is not just an oak bomb. Having said that, I can see getting tired of this pretty fast (my personal taste) - I had just a tasting sample. A solid crowd pleaser at $30.

  • This pretty much tasted like grapefruit wine. aromas of grapefruit, taste of grapefruit, bitter finish of grapefruit. Clearly oaked, it was interesting, though hardly the 'best SA Chenin Blanc made' as the Joberg clerk assured me. I've come to the conclusion that his recommendations were about as polar opposite to my taste as possible. However, this wine, though overly bitter upon opening, has a redeemingly full mouthfeel and welcome acidity. The bitterness dissipated over the course of 2 hours, though never really disappeared.

night two: this has lost the bitterness and gained some herbal elements. Unfortuntely, it has just started the oxidization process. You just can't win 'em all.
