Almost three years since my previous bottle, and this is was my last one. Again, upon opening this reminded me much more of a white Rhone than a Chardonnay. So gave it some time in the open bottle, and while the nose remains white Rhone, the palate is more Chardonnay with more acidity and nuttiness. Nevertheless compared to the 07 Bouchard Corton Charlemagne preceding the wine, this lacks the freshness, minerality and aromatics of the Burgundy. The oak is still fairly dominant after 13 years, which tells me there was too much to start with. Drink up.

Previous bottle was over the hill, but this one still shines. A bright light golden color. Good structure, still big tears after swirling. You want to drink this wine cooler rather than warmer. Where the 2007 ma belle fille becomes more nuanced when a bit warmer, this wine’s acidity and spicyness becomes more apparent (and I can understand the reference to a white Rhone wine). Cooling this baby emphasizes the light citrus, oak and sweetness (although it is quite dry). Not so nuanced, but still a prety good big Californian Chard that only lacks some complexity.

Four years since my last bottle. Pnp. Pale golden yellow. First glass reminds me more of white Rhone blend than Chardonnay with this aromatic, sweet and sour note of candied lemon peel, the candied fruit disappears a bit with more air but this is now a very rich wine with a fair bit of sweet oak still showing. Good length no doubt Nice complexity and very fragrant but has lost the freshness from 4 years ago (far away from the Chablis I mentioned back then). Time to drink up remaining bottles in my eyes. 91
PS: wine benefitted from more air and from cooling down to perhaps 9C, improved balance with more freshness nicely matching the more subtle sweetness. Excellent 93

New Years day with salmon. This was superb! Great color great balanced nose an very interesting fruit medly. Ver chard like but much better than the white burgs in same price range. White burgs are getting much too citrussy. This was just great for any white wine lover. Yummy.

Notes of caramel apple, a bit of butterscotch and orchard fruit with an underlying stone quality. Orchard fruit and a bit of buttery oak on the palate. Not on par with the best examples of this wine, but excellent nonetheless.

Pale gold. Nose initially shy but kept opening throughout the night to reveal pear, mango, cloves and a kick of licorice at the end. Taste was smooth throughout. A lingering licorice finish. I will try to remember to decant the next one.

Pale gold color. Nose of ripe apple, peach pit, melon, and iodine. Spicy flavors of apple and crème brûlée in the mouth. The ample alcohol (15% per label) isn't overwhelming but could be balanced by more acid. There's still plenty of fruit here, suggesting this Burgundy premier cru-like wine has some more years to go.

At Tom and Susan's farewell dinner, off to California. Drank this next to an 08 Domaine de Montille
Really opened and nice on this evening, better than prior tastings, showing its put on some weight and added complexity. Medium gold color. Nose was showing minerality, white flowers and mild oak. Citrus/lemon, marmalade, oak. Creamy mid palate texture. Long finish, exceptional wine...
Crowd preferred this to the Montille, both wines were excellent. This is in a great spot now, probably drinks really well for next 3-5 years, doubt it will improve too much more from here

Really nice medium fruit compared to other Peter Michael. Similar tasting notes. Less mineral notes than I would like, but this is big Napa Chard. Moderate complex finish. Marmalade, lots of citrus - almost more than tropical qualities. Very nice. Consistent year to year. Still didn't show too much age.

Having seen the alcohol content of 15% - one, five - on the label before opening, I was expecting the worst. But already the color is a surprise: not the dark golden yellow of an overoaked and tired monster but a pale color, like a Chablis. Chablis was also the first thing that came to my mind when facing the nose, not a lot of fruit, a bit closed and dominated by plenty of minerality. But neither oak nor alcohol shows. On the palate this is obviously quite oily, you cannot hide these 15% entirely, but very dry and not sweet at all. Fairly long finish. An exceptionally good wine, on the palate it lacks perhaps a bit the expressiveness and complexity of a very good Burgundy white, but in style this a lovely wine if you like that region.

Bachelor Party Dinner at RPM with Brad, Drew and Ed (RPM Italian Chicago): Let breathe for about forty five minutes. Not quite as over the top with butter and oak as other PM Chards. Nice acidity and a great green and yellow fruit core. Quite tropical with some unique citrus twists - kiwi and sweet lemon. The palate is still very rich and well endowed. Showed just a touch of age but this should be able to gracefully go for at least a decade or so.

Deep lemon color. Shy nose, mostly buttery, peppery oak, but also some interesting soapy perfume. Less hot than expected considering the amazing 15% abv, in fact this seemed a little thin and watery, with minimal acidity. Shortish, mostly woody finish.

Drunk side by side with a 90 Noel Gagnard Chassagne Premier Cru. I liked the Michael better. Pale yellow with a mineral and citrus nose. A light balanced palate of minerals, some lemon, citrus and pear. The burghounds at the table complained about the oak which I didn't find intrusive. All in all, a very nice wine. Not sure it warrants the price, but very good nonetheless.

Day 2 notes. Rich elegance in a glass. Light honey in color. The palate is awakened to bright, rich citrus with notes of pineapple, honey, peach. The wine is very full bodied, rich and powerful. The years since production have added a slight nutty woodsy complexity to it. All in all, a dream Chardonnay.

Dinner at our house with Dave and Beth. Served next to a 2010 Jadot Chassagne with appetizers. Montrachet as a comparison of the chardonnay grape.'
Pale gold color, let this open for about 20 minutes. Round and creamy, citrus/lemon, balanced oak, medium finish. Finish had combination of vanilla and citrus.
Very good Chardonnay, Peter Michael is very reliable. Not the best bottle of PM I have had, usually they stand out more. Very good and drinking well now.

15% alcohol. prompted by current WB thread and world of fine wine dissing of PM. i don't really think the wine is cloudy (they would really hate aubert), but as not fined or filtered, this wine is far from clear. i'll make a prediction that the stuffy brit reviewer was immediately put off by the alcohol number. again, not unusual to see the revered aubert clock in at this level or above. a little disjointed on opening, so i splashed decanted for15 minutes and it settled down. typical tropical fruit and some oak which i don't mind. i like this, although it's not a superior example of the ethos.

A big but very good California chardonnay. Soft and round on the attack with creamy with notes of lemon of peach. This gives way to a mild backbone of acid on the midpalate. Less minerality and acidity than I expected making this a wine that will drink well now and for a few years. Oak is very well integrated and the wine has a moderately long finish. A nice wine.

Nothing to complain about here. Not overoaked, not grossly overripe. But not a lot to get excited about either. Not a tone of concentration, very mild acidity. Altogether a perfectly fine, boring wine. So maybe there is something to complain about - price. I could have bought 4 bottles of a really good Loire Valley white for this price.
