Simply put, the best Barbera I have ever had. The color was an intense blackish purple with thin edges. The nose was full and fruity with lots of mild spice and some earthiness. This is a big Barbera with a ton of lucious fruit yet it sits lightly on the tongue and finishes with layer after layer of fruit and silky tannin. I tasted this wine (not sure of the year ) at the winery in 2007 and it was wonderful then but this bottle at 6 years old was even better and in my judgement had years of life left in it-- my guess at least 10 more years.

A: Very deep purple - Cranberry flannel. N: Red licorice apple wood and granny smith apple skins. Fuzzy smell. T: Light apple wood smoked...licorice. Chocolate cherry cordials. F: Long for a light wine. Mild tannins. Overall: This needs some air. Very nice wine that worked with tomato sauce. Slow start finished beautifully. V: 4/5

Not bad but more of an international style than I'm usually looking for. Very silky mouthfeel and light red fruit dominate the palate. There is a very nice note of vanilla on the rather long finish. At $21 I feel this is fair but not outstanding QPR.
