Charlotte – Dme Chante Cigale 2006 Chateauneuf-du-Pape C : Dense red/brown with garnet rim. N: Damp earth and truffles. T: Kirsch cherry with woody notes and liquorice. Very warming and spicy and while there is a pleasing savoury/sweet balance the mid-palate is hollow and what’s left of any fruit disappears all too quickly leaving a marked astringency. Summary: While still giving pleasure, this is past it’s best and on the way down. Imo, best drunk at least 5/6 years ago, so consume any remaining stocks while what’s left of the fruit is still survives. 86pts

Nice 13 year old Chateauneuf-Du-Pape (65% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre and 5% Cinsault) although probably past its peak. Tastes of ripe cherry and olives, supple tannins.

Classic Chante Cigale, reflective of the vintage. Exotic (not spoofed), Persian, makes me think of Oriental rugs and HH Richardson. Nicely secondary, just a bit young for me, probably perfect in a couple years.

Yeah, I liked it but...it just didn't sing. Among several modest Bordeauxs, a Mordoree CdR and one or two American reds, it was the dullest wine on the table. On the other hand we weren't terribly fair to it. Dinner was already over so there was no food benefit, and we didn't decant. Think I'll wait two years for the next bottle, and make sure it's with dinner.

Definitely a step up from the bottle I had 4 years ago -- both from 375. Nothing great, but a very good CDP. No decant, although I did wait a while before I drank it in earnest. Opened up a bit. Worth waiting 30 min or so. Could get better over the next few years. I do not drink a lot of 375s, and so I am not sensitive to differences in how they might age compared to 750s.

Decanted for 30 minutes. Dried flowers, crushed raspberries, stewed plum on the nose. Jammy. On the palate, warm red fruits and spice. Medium finish. This got better with time, and so a longer decant would probably improve the first glass. Good QPR.

Farewell Little Buddy (Reno, NV): Didn't spend as much time with this one... aromatically correct and interesting wine that lacked depth of flavor and persistence on the finish. Decent CDP that I would drink now.

Decanting improved the wine. First sip had some vibrant fruit, well balanced but s short finish and little depth. Over time depth and finish improved and it was a lovely CDP.

Slightly opaque deep ruby color, Nose of resinous oak, olives, boysenberries, red currants, earth and clove. Wine possessed medium acid and was nicely balanced. This wine required an hour of decant time before starting to drink. Would have preferred a few more years bottle time... Excellent value ChduP.

Flowers, red and blue berries, tobacco and spice flavors. It has a dense and rich mouthfeel, but all the flavors are well balanced with everything in it's place. Not as deep or lively as the 07, but for $20 on sale at K&L, it's a no brainer.

Drank it double blind against a Cal CdP knockoff. This tasted older. Delicate nose, not as robust as other reviewers found it. Leather, dry leaves, not a ton of fruit. For a good price, I would buy again. Finish was fairly short.

Not a wine to drink by itself but it was terrific accompanied by Indian food. Fairly intense nose, fruit forward with a nice finish. Should be even better with age. And a great wine for the price!

Juicy, round and firm. Black profile with rubber, licorice and bitter tar. Long finish. Some herb. A little too bitter but very nice especially for the price ($12 for 375ml). B/B-

I will not provide a numerical rating for this wine because I think it needs at least 2 years (possibly more) before it is ready to drink. Wine Advocate suggested that it you could drink this bottle "over the next 7-8 years" implying that it was ready to drink now. I don't think this is the case.

Not very impressive. There was simply no "there" there. No much of anything going on -- at lest for me. Not bad by any stretch of the imagination, but not particularly flavorful. Maybe because it was from a 375, maybe because 2006 needs some time, maybe because it was the end of the evening. Chante Cigale is meant to produce a decent CDP, so I will try another in a little while. I have a bunch of these little ones.

I don't think you look for grapefruit in a CNP. Strong tannins, a little bitter.
