The one with Liz (Home): Showed slightly green but with telling chambolle rose florals with pretty red fruit. Palate not exceedingly complexed, tannins silky, medium acidity but finish shorter than expected. Not too excited with this particular showing.

Decanted for 2 hours. Served blind, I guessed 98 Gevrey. Shows some age on the nose, with mature red cherry and a bit of VA. Lovely core of pure fruit, lively and not four square like many 06s. My favorite wine of the flight.

nose - floral, sour cherry, perfumed mouth - initial impression is that of sour cherry and somewhat simple yet pure fruit. with time some additional complexity evolves all in within the bitter light red fruit spectrum. I preferred this to the '06 Groffier Amoureuses

Floral and mineral. With several hours in the decanter, it's clear this has structure it still needs to resolve. Look forward to seeing how this evolves.

The nose is cool, spicy and restrained. The palate is spun from vinous silk and full of sweet fruit and cool rocky mineral things. It is fine and detailed and the finish is somewhat akin to sucking on a cherry stone.

A Clos St Jacques kind of night. (Elite Seafood Restaurant): Served blind. On the pop and pour it had this really sweet and delicate purple fruit and I thought a cool climate CA pinot but as it developed it picked up this gorgeous floral nose with spice mixed into to that sweet fruit. On the palate it was light and elegant with a softness that matched the delicateness of the nose. If there was a textbook example of "pretty" for a wine, this would be it.

Lighter red in color, nose of red fruit, slightly earthy with hints of red flowers. Pretty light palate with decent but subtle layers, acidity a bit too sharp without the ripe fruit to support, in fact a tad lean. Should get a bit better in a few years but wont be something great.

Beautifully pure and unadulterated with sweet and crunchy fruits, lillies and violets, earth and rocks and a little sap to the aroma. It is a wine of great finesse and proportion, breathing up to show fruits such as pommegranite, cherry, raspberries and strawberries in clear focus. It is lacy with tremendous rocky detail and has a tart cranberry snap from which all flavors then fan out from towards the finish.

For a (very) young burg, this was spot on. Good kirsch flavors, a little earthy. Lots of the young wine 'brightness' that will diminish over time. Pretty much textbook Chambolle flavor profile...

Chambolle 1er Cru Night with Sasi (The Universal @ Duxton Hill): Best of the three Chambolles, edging out a very solid Leroy. This had the benefit of 2 hours or more in the decanter by the time I got to it, and had opened up quite nicely. Just served a tad too warm, which may have made the wine a little muggier, but still a really good showing. Nose was lovely. Nice flowery tones, some funky earth hints, a little toast, anise-led spice notes and darkish cherries, all very high-toned and quite arresting though. Palate really showed the quality of the terroir. Sweet and perfumy, it had more morello cherry notes, strawberries and some orange peel. Plenty of strength, yet it came across really light on its feet, with lots of charm wed to a nice sense of structure from fine, slightly powdery tannins. Finish slid in seamlessly, with a longish show if sappy fruit and a little bittersweet lift. Plenty of firmness here too. I think this really deserves a good decade or more in the cellar, but it was really nice to get a little snap-shot of a really good wine in its youth. The Amoureuses character was quite nicely showing even now - the qunitessence of Chambolle-Musigny.

Tasted at VVW, no idea how long the bottle was open. Somewhat closed at first, but opened up with some swirling. Darker than usual with a nose that is more plums and black fruits than I've come to expect from Bertheau. The palate was reasonably full and round at first, leading to a very complex and layered mid-palate that is compelling. Impeccable balance. The finish is long and really sets the hook for this wine. It is the type of finish that lingers and gives you ample time to marvel at the complexity and persistence. I really liked this one.

A private dinner hosted by Chris Janselijn, Mattijs Koornneef & Midas van der Meiden (Restaurant The Lobby Fizeaustraat, Hotel V, Amsterdam, NL): Magnum. Fragrant, silky, floral and spicy, supple and energetic, fresh, nervous, depth and freshness, forest floor, grippy tannins, a fine wine, but it does not really deliver the exquisite finesse which Amoureuses is capable of.
