Korean BBQ dinner at home (Mi Casa): Expressive nose displaying ripe black fruit, blackberry, blackberry jam, cappuccino, dark spices, a hint of sous bois and tree bark like mineral. Very good concentration, layers upon layers of very ripe black fruit, rich and deeply toned, slightly hollow middle due to the 03 ripeness, medium acidity, medium mineral, and a long ripe black fruit driven finish. It clearly displays the 03 ripe fruit expression but not too bothersome. This is drinking well. With time, this may evolve like the 76s, i.e. ripe and soft. This may further benefit by more pronounce tertiary notes and sous bois.

Perrot-Minot 2001-2005 Tasting (Chicagoland IL): In 01-05 vertical, then finished alongside ‘03 Beze. Clearly ripe, but with so much heft and concentration that it’s clearly well balanced, finishing nicely bright and fresh for an ‘03. All black fruit with dark chocolate, braised meat with savory spice and lots of heft. A great success for the vintage, and a wine that surely hold well for another decade+.

Open an hour+ before serving. Very ripe black fruit with dark chocolate, liqueur and roasted meat. Very powerful throughout with Grand Cru density and very good+ length.

Surprisingly bright cherry/strawberry fruit out of the bottle. Smooth, still fresh; adds structure and depth with air with darker undertones coming to the fore. No down side in the near future. Excellent. 93+

I probably haven't had this wine since shortly after release. Very ripe black plum and blueberry aromas and flavors with dark chocolate that is clearly reflective of the vintage, plus some roast meat character showing terroir. This is one of those well made 2003s that is aging gracefully due to its great concentration, despite low perceived acidity. Overall in a very enjoyable place today, and this remained consistently enjoyable over 3+ hours in glass. I like this a lot, while others (who are more ripe fruit centric) will like it even more.

Significantly less evolved than the last bottle I had. Overripe on both nose and palate. And I'm not sure where all of this wood will go but there is not sufficient substance to absorb it. May mellow with time but difficult to see how this will fundamentally improve.

A darker color than I am use to for Burgundy which is a testament to the producer; the nose is very broad and expansive with layers of dark sweet fruit, very ripe, not New World but the closest thing to it, plum, dark cherry, none of the sour you come to expect, clean and fresh, a hint of black olive reiterates the ripe/overripe quality of the Pinot; a very interesting example.

Dark purple in color. Rich black fruit with a hint of espresso. Not much heat but you could detect some misplaced alcohol. Not great but not bad for an 03.

Quite a showing of this perfectly ready to consume grand cru. Never reaching the complexity of the very greats, this nonetheless unfolded with regal tones of plum, dark cherry, earthy roots, oak and smokey overtones. And with time, the wine began to take on richer, purple mysterious colors and flavors. A hint of anise and but also a velvety red/ almost black cherry/ plum voyage with breeding. Wonderfully silky too.

A perfect example of blackberry fruit expression, surprisingly fresh, espresso beans but not a hint of roasted characters. Polished palate, medium concentration, jammy but not overripe fruits and slightly lacking acidity. Based on my recollection this has fresher fruit expression than the 03 Truchot CDR. I am sure this will be heavily discounted at an auction and the one to look for in a mixed lot. Quite enjoyable.

One of two '03 Perrot-Minot closers with the cheese course. I'm not a big fan of '03 reds in general, and given that Perrot-Minot is already a bigger style this really was just too over the top for me. Recently had an '01 Perrot-Minot Mazoyeres and I enjoyed that much more, it had more structure. This was sweet, fat, and a little dumb by comparison.

Popped and poured. Dark color, black fruits and minerals on the nose. Very dense and mouthfilling and somewhat masculine. Moderate tannins and good length. Let the rest sit for 5 years.

Domaine Perrot-Minot Tasting/Dinner with Some Other Great Burgundy from DNS (The Bristol - Chicago IL): Open 45 minutes before serving. Served alongside 2003 Charmes-Chambertin. Black and blue berries are ripe but balanced with dark chocolate, vanilla and baking spice. Perhaps slightly better than another bottle from a few weeks ago. Aging well. Better than the Charmes.

Beats the '03 Charmes. Blackberry, some dark savory, and a surprisingly glassy mouthfeel. Pleasant but lacks fundamental complexity.

Bonham's and Butterfield Pre-auction tasting (San Francisco, CA): Slight stinkiness on the nose, ripe, powerful; balanced palate, good acid, but not that interesting on the palate. 89-90
