Medium dark red, slightly garnet centre, pretty solid to the edge. Cedar, oak, cherry nose. Palate is broadly fruity and still laced with oak. Sour cherry is quite persistent, firm finish. It is rather short on acid but don't dismiss it foe that. It is a warm hug of a wine. 22 years old and not fading.

Root Day - cork broke upon removal leaving a portion stuck inside to the neck of the bottle. Decanted through a sieve off a good couple of tablespoons of sediment (most I’ve seen in a while). In the glass the wine is a beautifully hued orange and mahogany - it glows. On the nose it’s old leather, dried red flowers, crushed cigar, and dried red fruit. It’s very smooth and luxurious on the palate with fully resolved tannins, medium plus acidity, warm (but not too) heat from the alcohol and delicate flavours of dried red fruit, black licorice, leather, tobacco and spice. The finish is long with the spice, fruit, tobacco and leather all continuing. Wonderful wine even with the poor cork and large amount of sediment.

Dark red and brick colour. Nose shows oak, although dissipated with time. Nose also is a little prune along with the sour cherry. Fruit is not fresh anymore; it is mature, leathery and slightly sweet. The finish is dry. Time to drink up!

Opened for pasta rusticana night, this dark deep red showing dusty and rusty mineral driven maraschino cherry on the nose, with earth and mushroom elements. Nice smooth attack, with pure dark fruits on a mineral driven finish, featuring slightly sour black cherry, black raspberry and cassis. Pure, focused effort drinking very well at present. A delicious effort not over the hill by any means.

The nose is smoky with cedar, spice an vanilla. taste is smooth, quite fresh, balanced and lovely. very Spanish and quite modern wine - but it works. Quite nice - to go with roasted pork, I think it will hit the spot.

Deep maroon color. Nose of dark fruits, vanilla, and a hint of tobacco/earth. The palate shows blackberries and cigar ash, with prominent tannins and high acid on the finish. Very oaky. Improved a bit with food. I liked the 1999 vintage better.

concentrated red and dark berry fruit, sweet vanilla undertones. round tannins, balanced mouthfeel. well structred wine, should be great for the next 5-7 years

Wonderful nose of dark fruits, smoke, cedar, tobacco and spice. Ripe fruit on the palate with earth and herbs to add complexity. Mouth-coating yet elegant. Excellent wine.

Out the gate, I was disappointed. It was harsh and closed, but after a few minutes, it bloomed to expose mineral and blood along with violets and dusty earth. The length was very nice and good. I like it, but I probably wouldn’t have guessed it was Tempranillo, though that mineral quality might have helped lead me in the right direction if pressed.

I used this wine in a tasting with 5 other Spanish reds, mostly 2001 and 2003 Ribera's and Rioja's. It cam in 4th in a blind tasting. I was disappointed versus Advocate and Spectator ratings.

I enjoyed this wine but it did take some time. On first opening, I was underwelmed but since most of my wine is over 3000 miles away at the moment I didn't have too many choices. Anyway, on to the wine, cedar and black fruits present and not much else, however, as I said, I did enjoy this. Finish is about 30 seconds. It's been an hour so I'm going to revisit the wine and see if I should update my notes.

Great dark color, nose had a lot of cedar, on the palate there was a lot of mushroom in addition to the cedar...improved after an hour or so. A lighter wine, for sure, although this followed an '02 Numanthia so I think it may just have suffered from the order in which we consumed them. I'll let the next one breathe for a couple of hours before trying, and won't drink it after a powerhouse like the Numanthia.

Tobacco, black fruit, well balanced and drinking beautifully. With rack of lamb in a dark mole sauce, worked perfectly.

This one was far better than the other 2 I had. Tannins have smoothed out, lively acidity and beautiful dark fruit.

Dark and smooth. Hint of spice. Perfect with Indian cuisine. A little heavy on tannins. May improve with age.

Concentrated dark fruit, tobacco, and spice. The oak is prominent but a touch more integrated than with the previous bottle.

Bordeaux 1989 (and the rest...) @ Peter V. (Netherlands): Plush red and black fruit, a tad volatile. Leather, meat and ink. Nice 17/20
