Last of six. Still very perfumed nose, though diminished from its younger years. Classic smokey raspberry Mourvedre A wine that stands up well to chicken, to fish, to veggies, to pasta: perfect for a summertime potluck dinner gathering. I'll miss these, but it is time to drink 'em if you got 'em: this will not improve, and is beginning to tire.

Unusual, and unusually delicious. slightly occluded medium purple-red color. Very fragrant, almost perfumed. Paired beautifully with vegan dishes (as it happened). Nothing not to like about this juice.

Fragrant red rose and cinnamon spiced aromas. A multi-layered beauty featuring dark chocolate, raspberry pie, tilled soil and incense. Black cherry skin graces mid-palate. This is remarkably balanced and structured. Singed oak on a very long finish highlighted by ground brown spices. Can go longer. Erik & Carla's Billiard Room - HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Unscrewed and poured. Fragrant nose, perfumed in the way of Mourvèdre. Medium body, unobtrusive tannins, easy-drinking. Just right with food, even with a simple meal of butternut squash soup and salad; pleasurable without being in any way overpowering. Drinking very well now, but no rush: should hold at this plateau for a few years. A lovely iteration of this grape, from supposedly the oldest Mourvèdre vines in Australia.

Wonderfully complex wine. Unique nose of spice and sweet gamey meat. Funky. Palate is reasonably tight with prunes and spice but not at all fruity. Darker fruits appear late. Some astringency drives decent length. Perhaps not as long lived as I once thought?

Jura and Misc Tasting: Dark floral notes with cherry, aniseed, some iron, smoke and chocolate - quite complex. Rich red fruit on the palate blends beautifully with the more savoury spice and earth characters. Soft tannins and plenty of minerally acidity driving things. Quite thrilling.

For me and my company, this bottle was outstanding. I've had Mourvedre blends from Spain and was prepared for the powerfully fragrant nose, but was really impressed by the flavors of plum and milk chocolate in this single-grape bottling; we kept commenting on how scrumptious the wine was as we nibbled on sliced sausage and olives. Highly recommended.

Aged in French barrels for 18 months. Vines for this was planted in 1853 and Hewitson reckon it is most likely the oldest Mourvèdre vineyard in the world.
Ready to drink and has shed its deep violet colour.
Very fine tannins. Meaty, savoury edge with dark plums and intense sour cherries infused with cinnamon.
Some Christmas cake like flavours as well.
Very slippery / syrupy on the palate. Fairly long finish on the palate.
Alcohol heat pokes out a fraction.
A juicy, complex, full bodied savoury wine that will turn heads. Very good to excellent wine.
Purchased on special from online retailer Winestar for $55 in 2009. Current release of this wine is now up to $120
Tasted 24th April 2013.

Wow wow wow ...... What an amazing find and I love that not many people seem to know about it, from the oldest Mourvede vines in the world. The nose was just amazing a very mild chocolate, vanilla and a mix of fruit, but not over powering.. I spend the first few minutes just enjoying the nose, then the taste .... smoooooth and fantastic, and a long way to run yet. I am looking forward to enjoying over the next few years.

Holding a strong rating average of 93pts across more than a handful of notes and I can see why. Indeed exclude the dumb US market orientated reds and this would be a top 30 wine for Australia on this web site. Very early days for this wine but I have a few more to drink over at least the next 15 years. Very full and complete but necessarily ripe in the typical BV style. Fruit is sweet early but plenty of spice and some acid keep things in check. A little pruny, ahla grenache, but this only adds to the complexity. Fruit gets progressively darker. Needs a lot of time; a real triumph.

Really deserved more time in the cellar, but such an interesting options wine!! Not showing as much weight this time, but nice nose and initial palate. Good line through to the finish, should have decanted more as it was much better the next day.

92-93; versatile, great with an assortment grilled meats and vegetables. Definitely Aussie, but with some restraint and not over-oaked. Black and blue fruit, great now or over the next 5-10 years.

A very interesting wine. From reputed to be the oldest Mourvedre vines in the world. Suprisingly light in color, more reminiscent of a pinot noir with a distinct reddishness. Nose is a mix of oak, chocolate, black cherry, strawberry, and damp forest floor. Palate makes me think of a white chocolate covered cherry in pinot noir juice. There are also nice secondary elements of spice and scorched earth. Smooth tannins, medium length finish. This wine is by no means a typical powerhouse Barossa wine, but a complex, balanced well made wine

A remarkable effort. A wonderful and delicious Mourvedre with baked raspberry cobbler, dark bitter chocolate and creme de cassis that glides over the palate. The second act delivers pretty red currant, red vines and cinnamon which ramp up to the dazzling finish of strawberry with a touch of mint. This gorgeous red has a fantastic frame and structure that keep all the flavors pure, intense and in line. This wine was ready to enjoy shortly after opening and impressed effortlessly throughout the evening. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Hewitson "Old vines and rare understanding" tasting (Prince Wine Store - Bank Street): A quite cloudy wine with a beautiful blackcurrant concentration lined with dried herbs. The palette is earthy, spicy and raisiny with big chocolate hits.
