A powerful and rich Cabernet that is ready to drink now. Dark red in color; full in body; nose of chocolate and straw. Ripe and round tastes of plum, sweet cherry, granite, and eucalyptus. 14.7% alcohol. Tasted next to a 2013 Carter, which showed a touch more sophistication (along with the expected energy and freshness of youth). Drink now.

Nose: Blackberry, cassis, violet/floral, hot gravel, cigar wrapper and sweet spices. Hypothetical CA Pauiilac? Palate: Gorgeous layered black fruit. Blackberry, Cassis, licorice. Graphite and some more floral and oak tones. Not a ton of glycerin here, which I liked, and a fantastic spice element that pops in the mid-palate. Chinese five spice and the signature To Kalon sweetness. Finish: Long and black fruited.
Opened this for my dad's 64th. I am guessing there is some bottle variation here because I had none of DryCab's experience with this.

Of the bottles I drank, this was by far the best. Decanted for 2 hours, it opened up nicely with a powerful bouquet of oaky plum and black fruit and flavors of spice and black cherry fruit.

After decanting for an hour, this bottle was less than expected, even paired with a great filet. The fruit was unrecognizable, yet the finish was tight and short.

Benchmark deep, rich, cassis laden, delicious from the first sip Napa Cab. Drinking great! We decanted it with an aerator and the room filled up with the delicious aroma of rich wine. Drink it now but it will age another 3-5 years easily.

What a difference a year makes along with decanting this wine for two plus hours. Once this Cab opens up it is long, concentrated and fruit forward with a finish that lingers for a minute. Multiple flavors and hints of licorice, currant and anise. Terrific complexity and now get why people love this.

Frankly, this was a bit disappointing. Was expecting a big, fruit forward wine that had a finish that would not stop. While this Carter Cab was big with silky smooth tannins, it remained closed even after two hours of decanting. Even after the third hour it remained shut down with virtually no finish and just a hint of dark fruit. Having said all that, it is still an excellent wine and for the lover who likes a more restrained Napa Cab, this is your wine.

Thought I had run out of these-a bottle that I was convinced was a Revilo....wasn't! One of the few times that I don't mind the affects of aging. Gave this hours to decant, poured it back into the bottle and took it to Arroyo for dinner. The extra time to breathe took it to a higher level-big, powerful dark fruit, with the flavor of cigar box and slate, the tannins developing a smooth silkiness that wasn't as pronounced (I think) as the last time. This has to rest a few years more before it fully expresses itself. When I arrived home, I double checked for any more-sad to say, this time it's official.

Decanted for 30 minutes; wonderful aromas and a nice, full mouthfeel; that being said, the mid palate kind of dried up during our meal. I can only guess is that this should have been decanted longer. Had this before and it was fantastic with balanced fruit and full, seamless coating. I think this has plenty left; wish I had more.

Dinner at Craftsteak. Decanted about 45 minutes. Big, dry and tannic. Fruit was muted. Nothing special. Probably would have been more enjoyable with more time in the bottle and a good, long decant.

Simply put, this was the absolutely least expressive and worst bottle of wine made from BTK grapes I've ever had.

Pho to lots of alcohol. Evened out after thirty minutes. Nice black fruit well balanced and medium finish. Even smoother second day
