incorrectly decanted this and im certain it's better on pop and pour. heat was prominent after too much air, but the fruit was still complex and very enjoyable. improved with pizza.

Dark garnet and plum purple with edge thinning and medium viscosity in the glass. Nose of fig, stewed plum, bramble, mushroom an dusty attic. Medium body, rustic and a touch of jamminess. Stewed plum, brambly dark fruit, muddy earth, black tea, currant and secondary sweet spice on the palate. Medium finish. Fun to taste aged Cali zin, but this one left me bored after a couple mouthfuls.

Purple red hue - dark, cloudy. Nose is almost port like. Tannins are fully resolved, fruit is still very much there. An enjoyable aged zin, but think it has lost a step from its peak drinking window.

Opened for the pot but tasted first! Sweet, rich, ripe fruit - hardly seventeen years old. I put it in the pot (braised veal cheeks on pappardelle) in any case and then enjoyed my last bottle with the meal.

A bit flat / muted when first opened, but after 30 min in the decanter, this bottle really opened up. Excellent, complex fruit with just the right amount of tannins. Beautiful bouquet. Great with steak dinner.

I had a backup bottle ready but it wasn't needed. This was surprisingly fresh, true to it's varietal character and very enjoyable with portabello burgers.
Medium red with slight fading at the edges. Expressive nose of rasberries, and a hint of leather. None of the alcohol I remember from previous bottles. In the mouth it is surprisingly fruit forward and mouth filling. The fruit faded on the lingering finish. I have to say I can't imagine a Zin aging more gracefully than this one.
This wine is 75% Zinfandel, 18% Mataro, 4% Alicante, 3% Petite Sirah. It really makes me understand those who say a Zin blend has a totally different aging profile than a pure Zin.

Dark red. Nose of framboise, tar, pine, mushroom, TCA, paint can. Tangy, assertive acid in the mouth; volatile acidity is above the typical for this bottling. Flavors are jangled up, with the corkiness, mustiness and fruit fighting for the fore. Finishes long, but hot. Ouch, I hate to see this happen to fruit from such a great old vine planting. Bottle #5 of six.
Amber color, ripe fruit despite the age. I was apprehensive, yet thoroughly enjoyed the wine with a fillet mignon off the barbie. One more bottle remains in the cellar - needs to be consumed quickly.

Sweet candied cherry core. Pretty, floral. Mellow with a strong middle and a long finish. Some darker notes with tobacco leaf, walnut. Very very nice. Not fading. B/B+

The Mouvedre really pulls through to give this backbone, and the wine still has lush cherry/berry fruit, spice and pepper flavors and an really nice texture.

A 1994 Pagani. Conventional wisdom tells me that this should be way past its prime, well it might be, BUT it was a wonderful tasty mature Zin. Not something I usually strive for. I tend to like my cabs and Bordeaux on the older side and my Zins and Syrahs on the young side. I usually love the up front fruit and in your face nature of Zins and rarely let them evolve to this point. Nice nose...lots of leather, port, ripe fruit, In the mouth this hot, ripe Zin was actually smoothy and dare I say silky? This is the very last of the case and I'll sadly say goodbye to the last glass of this bottle this evening. It was a very happy surprise to find this mature Zin so wonderful. Drank as a companion to grilled pork tenderloin, rosemary potatoes, cornbread and a mixed green salad. Wonderful summer meal in the garden! Cheers!

Interesting but somewhat over the hill and drying out. Lost its varietal character, but decent aged wine. Should have consumed much sooner.

Bought this recently, and nervously, since it is an old zin. Was very pleased. Smooth, sweet tasting wine. Very luscious on the palate.
