Decanted for a short time. Great aroma of dark fruit and vanilla when poured. Just yummy. Medium body. Really hit it's stride about hour 3. Great balance. Dark fruit, juicy acids and fine tannins. Long finish. Really enjoyed this Sierra foothills Zinfandel.

Pop'nPour, nearly the same as my prior note. The oak is more prominent but integrated with the fruit. A very good example of the fruity polished oaky style. Generally not my style but what makes it worth drinkng (besides the price) is the excellent balance that keeps it from causing palate fatigue.

Screw top, screwed and poured. Cherries and cacao on the nose. Palate is initially overwhelmed by vanilla and smoky oak. With air this recedes and reveals boozy, bourbon mixed with cherry cough syrup. Not recommended.

Drank over two days. Improved a little the second day. A bigger Zin with a great long finish. 15.1% alcohol, but the fruit is well integrated; not a "hot" Zin. Well balanced and flavorful. Excellent price point at $17. Should age for several years, and probably get better. Far superior to the Sobon Hillside Select and Old Vines varietals.

Not decanted, consumed over 2 hours. Medium bodied, with dark red cherry/berry notes that were only very slightly jammy. Well balanced against brambly/anise-y flavors and a hint of smoke. This did have a short and unpleasant acidic bite to it, but that's my only knock against it, especially at the price paid. I thought it might be a bit of VA at first, but it never blew off or fully settled down, so I'm not 100% sure. Will revisit the rest another night; rating withheld for now. (UPDATE: No longer jammy but still a bit sharp on day 4...)

Eye: Purple darkness Nose: Welch's grape juice smell as it tumbled into the glass from the bottle. Later it was softer, calmer but with a sweet floral note. The vanilla of oak grows as it sits in the glass. Tongue: Black cherry, with the classic 'brambliness' people note in Zins. Acidity cuts the sweetness. Oak at the end. Very good to outstanding. And as noted good QPR

A substantive wine of good proportions and not for the faint of heart. Not overly fruity, but powerful and balanced zinfandel. Acidity in check. This is an outstanding QRP.

This is what a Sierra foothills Zin should be; brambly with hints of pepper and smoke. A desert island Zin for sure, and and $12/bottle a good value too.

This is a good food wine, which finishes drier than many Zins. Assertive spice and berry notes. Medium viscosity. Odd as it seems, this wine kept reminding me of a good Rhone, with the alcohol and fruit engaged in a continuous balancing act. What more could be desired? A bit more length and more complexity in the (admittedly nice) flavors. But at this price, I won't quibble! And on top of all that, it's organic....

A step up from the old-vines bottling. Dense and rich berries and spice. Good structure and length, but too youthful and tannic to drink now. Let this rest for a while.

Smokey, red fruits, and spice. Good Zin with good structure, but the alcohol seemed to be showing a bit more than I would like.
