It'll be hard to put this bottle to bed. 25 years ago, I might have enjoyed this, but an over-oaked, slightly over-tuned Napa Cab of this caliber just doesn't age well. Give it 10 years and you're going to have a mess on your hands. That's the case here. It's not terrible, but it's pretty dead and disappointing to drink. My last bottle of 2 here, but sadly I have so many more of its ilk lying in the "cellar."

Dark blackish garnet colored with brownish hue setting in, medium full bodied, black fruits are overtaken by licorice and cedar/camphor and tones of smoke and creosote that burn off over time turning to tangy firm, tight black cherry and black raspberry with tongue coating tannins on the lingering finish.
Very pleasant surprise given its age and the fact that I have a case left. Complex fruit structure remains. Healthy tannins and decent finish. Black raspberries with chocolate hints. Held up well against beef. Looking forward to drinking remaining bottles over the next year or two.

Bought this a few years ago on sale for $18. At that price this is an outstanding QPR. With some age on it, this was well balanced with fruit and dirt and very smooth. Which I had a time machine. If scoring 91-93.

5 years after release this cuvée is in a beautiful place. It ooze's finesse on the nose and palate. There is plenty of dark fruit on the nose along with vanilla and sweet cedar. The wine is in perfect balance with just a hint of French oak to go along with the berry and cherry finish.

Big currant fruit on first opening, but that faded quickly. What was left was a fair bit of heat and oak, overpowering any possible secondary flavors. There's also a notable bitter undertone, possibly lingering oak tannins. Overall, given what it's lost and what it has left, I don't think it's going to get better. I think it's actually past it's prime.

how about that??? I actually did wait! Didn't realize I waited almost 2 years though. either way, a great drink. I can't say it changed a whole lot, but also didn't decant long this time. VERY smooth with a wonderfully long finish...almost lasted every time long enough until the next sip. Shared this with 4 people. I recommend sharing it with fewer.

Loved this. Nice blend of red and dark fruit, mostly dark, and some soy, graphite type flavors with good tannins and a decent length. At first I thought that even now the 1.5 hours of decant wasn't enough but as we drank this over two plus hours I was resigned to the idea that it wasn't opening any more. Still, for the $25 or so that I paid this was delicious and I wish I had six more just like it.

Some nice, sweet, red fruit on the nose but the fruit is limited in the mouth. I get a lot of graphite, or some similar. I'm just not on the same page with others, and wouldn't buy this again. Little or no change on day2.
Wow! I must've caught this wine at an awkward stage last time. PNP at Valentine's dinner at Satis. Good nose of dark fruit with subtle oak. This really integrated better over the last 9 months. Dark chocolate, casis, with a nice finish. Now I wish I had a more of this. Very well done.

Rounded and initially sweet on palate; though substantially softened with merlot, the dark aspects of the fruit carry the blend; a little docile if you're expecting a big cab, but in the pocket for those who seek smoothness; nose as expected but a little reticent. 50/5/11/17/7

Yummy Napa cab. Rather fruit forward, extracted, don't think about it just enjoy it style of cab. Was great tonight with the porcini mushroom ravioli in a porcini cream sauce. Blue and black berries, a bit of compote, and sweet earth. Smooth slightly grippy tannins. Delicious stuff, though not as superb as the 2006.

Decanted about 5 hours. The nose had black currant and chocolate, a little raspberry and spice, and some earth and vanilla at the end. The palate had dark, black fruit and dark chocolate, some earth, and a spicy oak finish.

My first thought was that there was something wrong with this wine, or with me. Very tannic, heavy smoked nose. After decanting for 2 hours, it was acceptable. For $20, a very nice table wine. For $34, Not so much.

This would be a good wine at $20 but not worth the price at $30. Good nose of dark fruit, tobacco, and chocolate. Hot on opening but very disjointed and too oaky for me. Medium finish with decent tannins, some fruit, dark chocolate, and smoke. The wine did improve on the second day but not much. I will wait to drink my last bottle for a while with the hope that it will better integrate. I would not buy this again, especially at the WL $40 sale price.

Nice dark color. Nose a little over the top, with candied fruits, some vanilla, and hints of mint. Decent nose, but it has a manufactured almost fake aspect to it. On the palate a typical dark fruit style from a Cali cab but a little austere and lacks the integration and balance of comparable wines. A pleasant wine, just doesn't stand out from its competition in any category. An OK buy from Cinderella Wine and with so many comparable Cali cabs in the $20-$30 price point, I might consider buying it again if under $20.
Second day was a tad better, with the nose becoming a bit more floral and having less of a manufactured nose. Palate still lacked integration with a little more heat coming through. I can tell nice fruit was used, just doesn't quite come together. Would like to think this would come around to be a 90+ point wine, but not seeing that at the moment. Still an enjoyable wine.

This never came together for me after a long decant. Candied blueberry and blackberry on the nose and palate along with somewhat of a milky chocolate or even coconut component. At first the tannins were a bit bitter and rough, but the tannins smoothed out over time. The problem is the wine became less integrated with alcohol making more of an appearance.
The next day after being open for 14 hours this became a hot alcoholic mess. I wanted to like this, but just don't see it.

Smoke and dark fruit with licorice and mild camphor. Soft to medium tannins. Midpalate to finish was nice but not terribly complexed. This bottle was better than the last I had some months ago. More time would soften the tannins more but I fear would leave the wine even more flat. This is a decent wine but not a bargain at the $55 release price.

Decanted, and drank 1st glass after about 30 min... Black fruit cassis, currant on the attack...maybe a hint of dark unsweetened chocolate. Had a bit of a cough syrup taste to it mid palate and a bit of an astringent finish, the wine never really came together and perhaps would have benefited with more air time...
Would drink again, not sure I would buy at the $30 pricepoint

medium bodied cab, feels like a bourdeaux style blend, slightly fruit forward, midpalate to finish was a bit thin though, black berry and plum on the front, midpalate had hints of chocolate and vanilla with some tobacco, finish needs time to develop, maybe could use a year or two to fill it out. Pleasant but not a wow wine. Got deeper and more balanced on day 2. Not sure that even at a big discount at $30 that this was a good QPR. Deep color, restrained on the palate, somewhat extracted but clean with some acidity. Smooth to drink and went well with food. Fragrant cab nose.

Hot, closed and disjointed when first opened. After lots of air and about an hour, really softened and showed mocha, vanilla, currants, and plums. Had this with dinner after a bottle of T-vine zin. Decanted for about an hour before dinner. Smooth, a little bit dry, but not too much. Not too fruit forward, but enough to make it taste full. Balanced well with spicy food, but didn't become spicy itself. Great with dessert, which was small fruit tarts. Continued to open up as the night went on, becoming smoother, yet more flavor.

Nice nose with dark berries up front. Great mouthfeel. Berries, molasses and a bit of chocolate on the pallet. Big oak on the back end with big biting tannins. Could use 3 years to mellow but very nice at this point. Should get better. Could go 89, but I'll give 90 pts because Robin Lail was a fantastic host.

taste: plush texture with a more medium feel that gives off balanced tones of red cherries, blue and red berries, and wood spices with a touch of oak
overall: a very nice bordeaux blend, but it doesn't really excite. Fairly standard and nice, but doesn't have a good amount of depth or purity of the flavors. I'm not really sure that time will add to it

A very good but still relatively young Napa cab blend enjoyed earlier this evening with Kim and good friend neighborbill at the monthly wine tasting at the Hickory Wine Shoppe in Hickory NC. Excellent wine but probably too expensive to be a truly good QPR. Great bold nose of dark stone fruit and leather, smooth and complex with still very pronounced tannins indicating cellaring potential for quite a few years to come and primary flavors of classic Napa cassis, mocha, tar, blackberry and earth.

Glunz Wines Winter Portfolio tasting (union league club, chicago IL): nose: nice rounded nose of blue and red berries, red cherries, red currants, and a bit of wood spices. More merlot driven on the nose with decent depth
taste: plush texture with a more medium feel that gives off balanced tones of red cherries, blue and red berries, and wood spices with a touch of oak
overall: a very nice bordeaux blend, but it doesn't really excite.

Cherry fruit with a deep earthiness. Bitter and tannic with boat loads of alcohol on the finish. Rough and rustic.

Niche Restaurant Staff Tasting (Niche Restaurant, Geneva, Illinois): Notes of red fruit, herbs and currants...elegant. Medium-bodied, with red fruit and herb flavors. Medium to long finish.
