Found this bottle at the back of my store and thought it might be over the hill. The wine was still a deep, opaque red with hardly a trace of brown at the rim. It was much better after half an hour. A good nose with fruit and spice. The palate was still quite fresh with lots of dark berry and black cherry fruit. Soft vanilla and spice from the oak added to the rich, mature but smooth character. It seemed to get better and longer on the palate with time. I am sure that most of this wine will have been drunk at least 4 or 5 years ago from the earlier notes but I think it is excellent now, given a little time to open. This bottle confirms my belief that good quality S. American wines can live and improve for longer than most people believe. I wish I had more.

I thought this was ready in 2010 but it has still been developing, although may be at its peak now. A touch of 'farmyard' on the nose and palate soon after opening but this faded leaving spice and cinnamon. Good fruit and balancing acidity. Next day - excellent fruit with pepper - very 'Rhone'. Touch of liquorice stems (bark) at the end. Very nice indeed.

Although still a youthful colour, this wine has aged (and maybe not that well). During first hour or so after opening I would agree with the negative reviews here - a bit hollow of fruit, tar dominant and that slightly chemical nose (reduction maybe?) - but at three hours it had improved a lot, more in line with the better reviews. Soft tannins with vanilla, baked cherry pie and some gentle spice notes. So we guzzled it with some lamb (always helps!)

Despite other reviewers suggesting otherwise, I thought this is drinking better now than 18 months back. It's savoury, peppery, spicy, vanilla baked pie fruit. The palate is very savoury and smooth. Tannins well integrated. Won't go much beyond 2012 I suspect but pretty good stuff now.

Not aged well. Drink up is my advice. Fruit is becoming all but replaced by tarry pepper & spice. An odd chemical nose has little appeal. A fantastic wine when young but age has not been kind.

A well structured wine with a nice balance of red fruit, lovely acidity and soft tannins. Has a lot of Northern Rhone character with minimal oak and lots of red cherry flavours with a firm, darker fruit finish. Great value Syrah from the Elqui Valley in Chile.

Had a bottle of this 18 months ago and it was better then. Getting a bit long in the tooth now. If you have it I'd drink it now, but still very good. Nose is spice. Medium acidity and still some tannins, light to medium body with a longish finish. Spice, juniper, tobacco. Blinding value.

A good value (11 euro), The nose was less pleasant with that chemical scent i just can't like. The taste was really good though, lots of dark read fruit but in balance with typical syrah components. Pretty long aftertaste makes this a good effort.
Struggling to see what all the fuss is about. Nice wine, but not a great wine. Plenty of sweet ripe fruit. Pepper, spice, vanilla. That's pretty much it though. Suspect might develop a little over the next year.

Wanted to see what all the hype was about This is undeniably a good wine with good acidity but not quite to my liking Initially found it rather peppery on the finish On day 2 the pepper had subsided and there was a strong smokey bacon note Would be interested to see how this is in a couple of years

Too light, young and fresh for me. Give me the full of tar and blow your socks of meaty Shiraz's any day. Anyway it was the last of my bottles and I just wanted to shift it. Good wine if you like the style.

Fresh, some chocolate and spicy fruits. Noticeable acidity. Very much a northern rhone syrah rather than a new world shiraz. Very very good, especially for the price

More fruit but less interesting than previous bottles, bottle variation from a large production wine ?

Lots of black pepper. Same as last note - very much a nerthern Rhone syrah, rather than a new world Shiraz. Great, especially for the price.
