My last bottle; not on the downslope yet, but also not a wine that has the potential for further improvement either, so if you own it, check out a bottle. I just had a glass of the 2004 - that wine has more acidity and is better focused, but this is pretty enjoyable if less “classic”. I may have mentioned this in the past, but at least in my experience, Porro remains a very underrated maker of Barolo.

This has aged beautifully, smooth but grippy tannins, wonderful complex fruit, purity of flavors, good structure, earthy bouquet, we decanted the wine in anticipation of sediment, lots of sediment, drinking an aged Barolo is enlightening, would drink again, drank with with chicken schnitzel with pasta and veggies, good stuff.

Medium garnet. Ripe cherries, dried roses, orange rind, mushrooms and leather on the nose. Cherry, kirsch, and bergamot follow on the palate. Tannins still a little grippy but integrating nicely. Really enjoyable right now; I just smile each time I drink this wine

First word that came to my mind as I tried this was delicious! The vintage is a warmer, early-maturing one, and at this point the wine may be at peak. Red fruits on the nose, decent acidity and persistence on the palate. I see that I mentioned a drying edge on the finish in my last note, but no complaints today.

Great nose here, with sweet & sour cherry fruit and menthol. More red fruited on the palate, but has a slightly drying edge on the finish. That's just a minor nit, though - this is a nice glass of wine. In terms of how vintages are drinking currently for Barolo, 2005 is in a really nice place.

I just had a glass of the '04, and this wine is different, yet equally pleasurable. There is more of a crystalized cherry fruit thing here on the nose, and on the palate, the wine is less focused than the '04. For whatever reason, Porro seems to fly below the radar, but if you like your Barolo with a traditionalist bent, one could do a lot worse on a Wednesday night.

Very nice and totally approachable at this point - given the vintage, not sure about any further upside, but if you want an honest glass of Barolo this hits the spot. Ripe cherry on the nose, decent acidity and persistence.

I see I had a bottle of this a month or so ago; I don't get that confected fruit note I did last time with this bottle. Ripe cherry, menthol and a little tar on the nose.
This is a light-bodied Barolo, though. Likable enough, but nothing special.

Light-bodied on the palate, with decent acidity and good persistence. Some tannin on the finish. Sweet/ripe red fruit on the nose - almost confected, to a degree.
I like this, and probably would like it even more if I hadn't just had a glass of the '99 Produttori Pora, which I prefer on opening.

Honest to goodness Nebbiolo on the palate - reminds me of Cavallotto in that it doesn't Wow you, but just delivers a nice glass of wine on a consistent basis. Still a tannic nip on the finish, but this is ready to go and should be good for another decade at a minimum.

Drinking well. Just classic Barolo at this point. Cherry, rose, earth, tea. Integrated medium tannins/acid. A touch simple yet everything a Barolo should be. Open one now but no rush either.

Translucent ruby in the glass; this is from a bottle I opened for dinner last night, and today I'm getting a raisined note on the nose that I didn't observe on day 1.
On the palate, simply delicious. Seamless, harmonious, good length & acidity - really a pleasure to drink right now, and I liked it even better last night, where it held it's own against a '98 Giacosa Falletto.
If you have this in the cellar, check out a bottle.

Gorgeous bottle of wine. Dried red cherry and red floral action. Secondary flavors of leather, tobacco, and subtle earth round this out nicely. Rich on the palate and intense, supported with bright and lively acidity. Dry and gripping tannins. Opens up to reveal more after an hour. Drinking well now but has the structure to reach age 20.

I'm getting a bit of cherry & licorice on the nose. The palate shows some floral notes up front, a cherry-filled midpalate followed by some earth/tar on the finish. The finish (the best part of this wine IMO) is long with medium+ tannins, medium acidity. This is enjoyable at its entry-level price point, though not nearly as expressive as some of the other Barolos I've had. Worth opening a bottle now if you have more than one, though I look forward to seeing if the initial flavors gain any more depth with additional time in the bottle.

Very nice Barolo. Somewhat tight at first but opened up over time. Fairly typical Nebbiolo characteristics but a healthy dollop of fruit, and a firmly dry finish. Really nice juice for the price!

Hard to define this one. Best with rather spice foods. Had many personalities. If I was more experienced I would know if this wine has shut down. Rather delicate wine. Medium to light bodied. Not much nose but has a long spicey finish. Maybe just understated and I don't appreciate.

delicious - big wine, and certainly ready to drink although it tasted a bit tired after an hour or so in the glass - drink soon

Drinking well, shows dried red fruit, earth, and roses. Minimal tannins so drink now, soft acidity, and a long finish.

Molto buono, naso sulla frutta ma non disturbante, bel tannino presente ma non grattante ed invasivo.
