Heater week; 3/8/2024-3/17/2024 (Chicago, IL): PYCM before it became all reductive. A little muted on the nose, but the balance of the thick and dense house style with Chevalier really does the trick here. Incredible complexity and minerality, proper chardonnay breadth on the palate, and in a perfect place right now. Still showing a bit of freshness from the fruit, this really have everything on display right now.

This was not as accessible as the last bottle and was jokingly referred to as a "barrel sample" by the tasting group. Concentrated and linear citrus and minerals. No discernible oak. This is very close to reaching the aniseed phase of aromatics, but not quite there. Needs at least 4 years to expand.

Took an hour to open up. Serious concentration with electric power and tons of mineral, matchstick and citrus accents intertwined with ripe orchard fruit. Very good but not as lights out as a bottle from a year ago.

It feels quite young but it is so intense with its clear deep fruit and many impressions including mineral and citrus notes. Just magnificent with an impeccable balance.

DRC in AZ - Tucson Comes to Scottsdale: Palate was a bit tropical, the finish a very chalky mineral. I prefer this to '07 tonight, but I don't think this will have the longevity of the '07.

Pale gold with a light yellow rim. Everything about this wine was intense, in the best way. An extremely chalky nose gets bolstered by a pleasant reduction, with orchard fruits, lemon/lime citrus, and asian pear. The palate is expansive and dazzling. Chalky minerality is balanced by intense extracted orchard fruit and incredible acidity. Some lovely white flowers and a touch of chamomile. Textually, the acid here is very high, but perfectly balanced. Dense, but lithe and elegant. In an incredible window now, but I can see this continue to evolve beautifully. A truly magnificent white burgundy.

Casual Dinner with Friends (Ada St.): Wow, an epic White Burgundy. Full, intense and penetrating nose has layers of an orchard fruit medley, citrus zest, mineral and spice. The palate has major league concentration with racy acids. So deep and nuanced. Approachable on pop n pour with no signs of reduction at all.

Wine Group Dinner #169 - 2009 Gevrey Chambertin Grand Crus (Urbane Restaurant, Brisbane): Wine Group Dinner #169, Urbane Restaurant. A delicious wine with real potential for improvement the 2008 Colin-Morey Chevalier Montrachet has a pale green gold colour and a pure nose of white peach and nectarines with touches of lime and white flowers. The palate is has lovely clarity of fruit with excellent drive and mouth feel leading into a fine finish that just drops away a little at the end. There is a sense of more to give with time in the cellar underpinned by plenty of material and a terrific purity.

Chevalier-Montrachet Lunch (Phoenix, AZ): Matchstick nose, much younger and less giving than '08 Ramonet. This is a pure wine, large scaled, with undoubtedly a bright future ahead of it. Chalky finish and gobs of dry extract.
Today drink the '08 Ramonet, in a decade drink the '08 PYCM.

White flowers, light citrus, chalk notes on the nose. Took some time to wake up and even then the nose seemed as if it never fully opened. A little flat and displaying less energy across the midpalate and finish than it should have. 92+

The palate is dominated by minerals giving saline tones, but they barely hide the dry but intense notes of peaches, citrus, and flowers. The oak is ever-present but well integrated. The finish is all minerals. A great, cerebral wine. In contrast, Bouchard's 2008 Chevalier, which is also excellent, was sweeter and showed more fruit and floral intensity and detail.

Served next to Bouchard's 2008 Chevy and overtime the difference in class (ie PYCM's superiority) really showed through.

Served alongside the '07. This lacks the depth of the '07, but still a very good wine. Typical matchstick on the nose. Citrus, fresh. Long finish.

Drunk along side the 07. Still a bit tight, and modestly less expressive (vs. the 07), but very good.

Fantastic across entire tasting; beautiful nose of flowers, golden fruit, stone and minerals.
Crushed limestone, minerals and deep body with unbelievable balance on palate.
Long, lush finish drinking beautifully

Quite exotic and sweet. Nice drink but it came out short against the Domaine Leflaive Batard which was on the same flight.
