At home at dinner (marinated chicken and orzo) with K and Miranda. Nice ruby-cranberry color. Attractive. Nose has polite cherry fruit, and initially at least, that sleek "candle wax" quality. Palate is fairly earthy, coarse; cherry fruit. Much of what I liked about this wine has faded, leaving a decent, but no longer complex or special, wine. It sure didn't age well. 4-10-14-6: 84/100.

With K at home at dinner (coq au vin). Gorgeous ruby. Viscous. Rich bouquet can be smelled from a distance. Bright cherry fruit. Earthy. Exceptional wine in the mouth. Light yet rich. Mouthfilling. Slightly sweet. Not quite as sublime as I remember the 1st time I had this wine, but still fairly complex and certainly quite good. Long on the palate. Probably shouldn't be kept over the long haul. 5-11-16-8: 90/100.

At Stars restaurant in SF at Mitch Meyers' going away dinner. Medium ruby. Fine bouquet of cherry, earth and tar. Excellent. Good flavor. Fruity. Fine stuff. 5-11-15-7: 88/100.

At home at dinner (coq au vin). Rich ruby color. The nose on this wine is something to behold. Rich, aromatic, penetrating crushed roses. The best Pinot Noir nose I've ever smelled? Maybe. Certainly none were more fruity or forward. On the palate, the wine is just great, with tremendous fresh cherry fruit, impeccable balance, with a touch of earthiness for complexity. Wow!! What a beautiful wine! 5-13-17-8: 93/100.

At Jeff Glick's going away party at Square One. Very pretty, intense, extremely concentrated nose. Wow. Cherries! On the palate, this wine is absolutely stunning. So deep, so rich, just incredible. What depth of fruit. Great earthy, tarry character. 5-13-18-9: 95/100.

5 Robert Mondavi Pinot Noir Reserve+3 Calera Pinot Noir+2 Burgundy+ 3 others (Orinda, Ca.): Group score 149.5 #13, and my last place, Sweat sox nose followed by nice pinot fruit that was earthy and medicine like, well balanced, good finish.
