  • Heady. On first opening, the alcohol was still overwhelming - an acrid feel to the nose. It blew off after about forty-five minutes, and was a concentrated, intense, almost syrupy wine. The wine tasted of raspberries - crushed, slightly tangy raspberries with a hint of liqueur (maybe that alcohol was still there after all). It was intense, and very powerful. Purchased for US$11.50.

  • Inky purple, with hints of red. Opened this in advance (two days early, in fact) and it's just beginning to be approachable. Sharply tangy, with a tannic sense - it's fruity, powerful, ripe, tannic, and good - not for the faint of heart.

  • Clear dark ruby; minimal nose (possibly too cold) but what is there is very fruity, plum, rasperry, blackberry; sweet palate with a notible tannic backbone and little acid, full body with flavours of plum and bitter chocolate; medium finish; right on the edge of my QPR limit

  • Decanted for 2 hours before tasting. Very sweet nose - alcohol is very evident. Seems very acidic to me. There's a lot of fruit, but it is overwhelmed by the alcohol. First sip is very harsh, but it mellows a little as you drink it. I think I'll hold the remaining bottle for a year or so. It's a powerful wine - but it tastes young and a little rough right now.

Day 2 - much, much better. The harsh note is entirely gone, and the wine is very smooth, a little tannic, and heady. I enjoyed it much more on the second day - upgrading my score to a 89.

  • Upon first opening this wine was fairly tightly wound, but over 2 hours it opened up nicely to show velvety chocolate/cherry flavours and anise floral nuances that were full and very expressive with 3 hours decanting. The wine opened up even more over night to show layers of spice which gave way more cocoa and white pepper, and finally depicted a solid grip of silky tannins on the finish. This had an amazing long finish of ripe fruit with some heat on the tongue, very seductive on the finish - a great selling point.
