  • 15% abv. Dark ruby to the edges, very aromatic. Raspberry, black cherry, white pepper, mint and sage. Still potent, rich, and deep, but with outstanding balance. No need to rush if you still hold this, but it is just tremendous right now. In the zone. A wonderful California old vine mixed black.

  • Still rocking it in 2023. Great dark color, very smooth - no tannins in sight.

  • The last time we drank this wine was 9 years ago, and what an evolution, beautiful fruit nose followed up with eucalyptus and ripe blackberry all held in balance on this unexpected cellar discovery. 94

  • I love Bedrock and celebrate most of Morgan/Chris's offerings, but the 2008 is hands down my favorite wine that they have made. It's a Thanksgiving tradition to open this bottle for our meal, and it literally gets better every year. Dark purple in the glass with explosive, old vine aromatics that leap from the glass. On the palate, this is literally a medium + bodied mouthful of Blueberry pie, baking spice, and a hint of orange rind that is washed down by waves of acidity. Not only my favorite Bedrock offering, but a top 3 wine for me ever. Yep. I like it that much. THANK YOU @bedrockmorgan and @underthewirewine for playing such a special part in our family Thanksgiving. Only problem is that I only have 1 bottle left :( Hopefully I can find more to carry on the tradition!

  • I'm about as big of a Bedrock fan as you can be, and I've had the pleasure of trying many of Morgan/Chris's offerings. That said, I can say with the utmost confidence that the 2008 is hands down my favorite wine that they have made to date. Think of your grandmother's Blueberry pie, mixed with just the right amount of structure, waves of acidity, and a long finish. Truly just happiness in a bottle. It's been a Thanksgiving tradition to pop one of these for the past 5 years and it literally get better every time. Only 2 left but fingers crossed I can source some more to keep the tradition going. Thanks Morgan and Chris for making us smile and for adding some extra joy to our Holidays!

  • I open one every year for Thanksgiving, and every year I love it even more. Just slaps you in the face (in a good way) with grandmas blueberry pie. So damn delicious you wish you could scoop it up with a fork. But theres plenty of acidity here to keep it fresh, and enough grip to ensure me that my last bottles will be very well received over the next 3 Thanksgivings. Life is good!!

  • Good God was this good. I mean seriously, seriously good. The 2008 is probably my all-time favorite Bedrock and I've made it a tradition to open one every Thanksgiving. They've all been great, but this bottle was on a completely different level. Popped it around noon and let is slow-ox until 5pm or so, which turned out to be perfect. Insanely expressive nose of violets, and blue fruits literally explode out of the glass. Just so good it's hard to take your nose away. On the palate you get a mouthfull of blue and black fruits, florals, baking spice, and a beautiful/distinct hint of orange rind on the finish that's all washed down with just enough acidity to keep it all fresh. Best bedrock ever and a top 3 wine this year for me.

  • Still fantastic! Great bold fruit & plenty of complexity from minerality & spice. Good acid & structure. Paired well with steaks.

  • Just a phenomenal wine and possibly my favorite Bedrock ever. I check in on one of these every Thanksgiving and it literally gets better every year. Dark, savory fruits and florals on the nose and the palate, with nicely integrated tannins and a long, beautiful finish. Drinking so damn well right now but looking forward to popping the 5 I have left over the upcoming turkey days as I feel there's still room for improvement. Happy Thanksgiving all!

  • Three pronged--with robitussin, smokey Italian herbs, and singed, bitter, alcohol--and still excellent, though I appreciated these more a few years ago. I have to think they're on the decline. Two consistent bottles.

  • Coravin'd into a glass for 2 hours. Saturated color with a very thin clear rim. Bright, lifted aromatics feature red berries, sweet and Asian spices, a floral high note, and some darker fruit elements. The flavors are fresh, medium bodied with a nice viscosity to the texture. With lovely balance and sweetness on the palate, this is a more feminine expression of the vineyard. There is just enough structure on the finish to suggest this will continue to delight but I will happily drink my remaining bottles soon. 2014-2018

  • Strained for sediment and decanted approx. 45 min. ... This one is still rich, full and beautiful. More than three years after our first go round with this vintage, I still feel like the Heirlooms are amongst Bedrock's best efforts. (Also adore the All Blacks and Kick Ranch Syrah.)

Bold, up-front fruit enhances, but doesn't overwhelm. Plenty of acid, tannic backbone remains intact and smokey, spicy, creamy notes on the mid and finish add plenty of interest.

A complex blend that's signing now, but has the stuffing to continue drinking well for at least 3-4 more years, during which I expect to see it develop further as well.

  • A great showing for this wine -- beautifully aromatic, dark fruits, spice and a touch of sweetness. It's a big wine, a touch port-like, but not overly thick or chunky. This shows no sign of age, but I see no reason not to pop the cork right now.

  • Decanted 2 hours. Chunky sediment. Very deeply colored tapering to a purple-tinged clear rim. Complex aromas of ripe, jammy fruit, sweet and savory spices with hints of saddle leather. Jammy, juicy and forward on the palate with flavors of red and black fruit. This is quite precocious and open. Nicely balanced with soft tannins and full body this is ready-to-go now and may not show much up side with further cellaring. Serve on the cool side and drink now through 2014.

  • This wine is drinking amazing right now. If you have more than one now is a good time to try one.

  • I don't write a ton of note, but this one deserves the obligatory, YUMMY. Berries, jammy, and a beautiful finish. Go get it, if you can find it.

  • Dazzling fruit and great length and complexity. Drinking beautifully now.

  • A huge wine! Very expressive nose of red & black fruits with a hint of spice. An overwhelming alcohol presence prevented this wine from being the wine it promised to be. Perhaps more time in the cellar might have helped...I will never know...this was my one & only bottle.

  • 15% alcohol. 2008 marked the 120th year for the great and venerable Bedrock Vineyard. A 19th Century blend of Zin, Petite and other traditional mixed-black varieties.

I spent much of Saturday at Bedrock, experienced the amazing vines and soaked up its history from Morgan and Joel. Paired with fresh, wild, Monterey Bay King Salmon. Dark ruby red. expressive red and black fruit aromas. Rich and deep, with subtle raspberry, smoke, pepper and black cherry complexity. There is a saline, mineral component to this that is very intriguing.

A great wine that expresses California viniculture at its very finest. I have one left, which I'll hold on to for a couple of years. I expect it to be even better then.

Note: I'm an old vine fanatic and work with Morgan. Even without this context, I'd love this wine.

  • The last of a 2-bottle allocation that was part of my first Bedrock order a couple years ago. I love this wine and I'm sad to see my last bottle gone, but then again I can't think of a better way to love wine than to drink it. We were dialing in our home-made pizza dough recipe and using a slow-roasted tomato sauce from heirlooms grown last summer in our garden, this intense concoction calling for a zin, something special, big and spicy; this seemed to fit the bill.

Splash-decanted shortly before dinner for some quick air. The wine is a lovely dark-purple ruby. Intense nose of brambly fruit, raspberry and plum. Palate follows with the intense red and purple fruits, great zin spice and cracked green peppercorns in the mid-palate. Finish is very long and fruity, and oak seems fully integrated.

I don't know if it's the hot 2008 vintage showing, or Morgan dialing in his style, but like my previous bottle, this is decidedly less restrained than the following vintages. For better or worse... The '09 is one I'd recommend to someone looking for a restrained style field blend. This '08, not so much, yet I love them both and I miss this now that it's gone.

  • More closed and darker than the Lorenzo, but I find the "old vine" Zinfandels to be this way in general. Still, it it full flavored, spiced and rich, Zinfandel all the way. Morgan continues to amaze me how at 29yrs he can produce wines such as this. Growing up at Ravenswood must be part of the explanation.

  • My first Bedrock Heirloom - I've been looking forward to this. This is a wine made from a very unique historic site, by a winemaker who absolutely values and knows what to do with this special fruit.

From vines planted in 1888. A classic field blend of Zinfandel, Carignane, Petite and other mixed black varieties. Native yeasts. Nine barrels made.

Dark, almost opaque ruby red. Expressive red and black fruit aromas. Blackberry and rasberry dominate a palate that is spiced with black pepper, cloves and a floral component. There is a very appealing mid-palate richness. Lingering aftertaste. A hedonistic and intellectual treat.

  • Pop and pour and served in plastic cups while sailing. Served with food. And still, wow. This wine shows richness of fruit and violets with a woodsy and peppery element. It shows sweet ripe fruit but the tannins and peppery spice notes keeps things in check. Tasty.

  • Well made wine. Not over the top or overly alcoholic. Just not to my taste. Can see this being a crowd pleaser.

  • Splash decant and drained for sediment (had quite a bit) ... Super wine that drinks like a far more expensive bottle. Bold fruit presented in a restrained, elegant fashion, with a definite Rhone influence. Doesn't jump out at you as a Zin blend; definitely has some finesse. Good tannic backbone--can hold its own against just about any entree--but extremely smooth finish. All-around winner from Bedrock, which seems to produce nothing but. Really like this wine, and this winery.

  • Zin tasting with friends - Brief notes: This was my first experience with Bedrock and I understand all of the buzz. This wine was delicious and even though it contains a smaller percentage of zin than the rest of the wines it was a knockout. Given another year or two of bottle age it should be singing. To me this wine seemed middle of the road in style between the restrained elegance of the Ridge's and the Jammy fruit bomb style of the Martinelli. Of course who knows what it will be like when it adds a few years in bottle.

  • My first time to try this wine. One of the best wines I've had this year. Perfect compliment to home-made
enchiladas. Reminds me of a Spainish Priorat. Must be the Carignan in the blend. I would never pick
    this out as mostly zinfindel.

  • Dark red fruits and pepper-like spices on the nose, with a smooth but highly fruity flavor on the tongue. Slighly cloying but incredibly long finish. I was expecting an overly-hyped mediocre wine but came away impressed with how smooth and balanced it is. A bit too over-the-top and high priced to warrant a very high score.

  • Cherry, somewhat bright in flavor, approachable, drinking well at this young age, enjoyed with Greek food at Kokkari in SF.

  • Very interesting wine. Fruity...a little syrupy. Strong notes of caramel apples. I like it.

  • Paired with Coffee Encrusted Filet Mignon at Mosaic after a short decant. Dark, dark purple with big legs. Intensely spicy/fruity nose, mellow on the palate, great balance, soft tannins. Alc did not show at all. Field blend from 120 year old vines. Man I like this wine but was only allocated 2 and this was the last one. So much for trying to hold on to it. Shared some with the kitchen and they came out to ask what it was. Glad I found Bedrock.

  • Decanted 2 hrs and drank over 2 more. Lots of black fruit but not the least bit jammy, with good structure. Don't think I could have pegged this as Zin blind. Just a really well put together wine. Probably more similar to a Ravenswood Old Hill than most of the octane stuff you see out there. Paired great with ribs.

  • Intersting wine. The lable list zin first and you get that on thenose, but the taste seemed to be more syrah with zin mixed in. boy is it different. glad I tried one.enjoy!

  • I was really Wowed by this wine. Opened the bottle, poured one glass and left them both out for 3+hours. Color is very dark almost black and blue. The nose was closed at first, then it smelled like licorice and concord grapes. Clean perfectly ripe fruit that sings with sharp acidity and balance. Finish that lasts for 1min+. Wonderful, much better than I expected. Should drink well over the next 5 years. Going to buy more.

  • Enormous fruit, both on the nose and in the mouth... but does not finish in a cloying, sweet way. Much more fun and palatable that its nose or profile would indicate... but a little overpriced for what it is. At $20, this is a winner. At $30, it just doesn't cut it...

  • Freakishly fun with zin black flavors that are dark fruit with a guttural fruitiness. Heavy but not overbearing. Still really young. Needs a few hour decant. Other grapes create an interesting conversation around blackberries and saddle leather.

  • Decanted about 1 hour. Very dark color, lots of wild berry flavors like blackberry, raspberry, mullberry, boysenberry, with some pepper and little bit of spice. Didn't detect much oak influence which was nice, and it was pretty balanced despite 15% alc. Very intense nose, and walks the line on jaminess, so definitely need to be a new world fruit lover for this one, but again its not an over the top similar to a Clio or something of that ilk... not over-ripe, not port-like... just very pure, fresh and intense fruit flavors.

  • very good, tight upon opening but has a lot of character that I am still unable to discern. best after 2011. 91-93

  • Pop and pour. Dark purple like petite sirah and a little cloudy. Big fruit, minerals and some alcohol on the nose but with an earthy CdP kind of nose that I really enjoyed. Big flavor but not dense or overpowering or overly acidic, nice spice and no heat. Needs to open up a little more. Great tannins on the finish that last and last. Going to give this another hour to breath. Really tasty juice.
3 hrs later it's still evolving with layer after layer of fruity goodness, what a delicious bottle of Zinfandel. Will hold my last bottle for a couple years, if I can.

  • 4th of July "Decadance": Aerated and decanted 1+hr, and served with a slight chill. Sexy black fruit shows violets and herbs, cocoa and stone, and red berries and pinecone; structured but not dense or unapproachable.

  • 4th of July Weekend Zin Fest (The Wine Country, Signal Hill, CA): Another no-holds-barred big zin in this tasting. Nice zin flavors but is really too over-the-top for my tastes and lacks some balancing acidity. Very long finish, though.

  • Offers both style and structure, with lively aromas of black raspberry, cracked pepper and mineral that lead to plush, layered flavors of wild berry, fresh sage and licorice. (Drink 2011-2016) - JD91
