  • Second bottle...

Again a slightly maderized smell when opening but it disappeared quickly from the cork and from the wine after a few minutes.

Bouquet is actually quite nice... it even smells thick and creamy... stewed apple and hints of vanilla and spices.

Weirdly though the flavour is more disjunct than the defective bottle. On the one hand side pleasant sweet fruit flavours on the tongue which are immediately followed by a rather bitter aftertaste.

While the first bottle showed some nice acidity in the aftertaste the acidity in this one is quite muted.

Its definitley a nice bouquet, nice thick body but the flavour profile is a bit rough and unharmonious quite contrary to other 2004 I tried so far.

I would have said keep it some more years but I would not buy this again since the bottle variation or whatever is too strange for me. Maybe also bad storage during transporation.

  • Upon opening immediately a maderized cork and the bottle smelled the same...

Strangely though the color is quite bright yellow and not dark at all. The only maderized bottles I encountered yet where much older and much darker shades of orange and brown.

On the palate a funky mix of wood, hints of sherry, overall dullness and still some zesty acidity.

After some hours of aeration the clear madeira profile subsided a little and hints of sweet apple came through.

The last sips of this bottle where the ones where a bit of the wine finally came throughand showed a bit of its true potential. Some nice fruit puree... but it was a short and fleeting expression.

Overall I think this one would have been a nice bottling if in pristine condition.

  • Work Wine Tasting - Riesling, Pinot & Syrah (Home): Light and fresh with a nicely creamy buttery nose. Crisper and fresher on the attack with a sense of cut lemon and decent minerality through the mid-palate to the positive finish. Very decent and went down well at a tasting for non-winos. Two bottles with consistent notes.***

  • Christmas & New Year 2011; 12/23/2011-1/2/2012 (Home): pale. Fine stream of bubbles; fesh creamy mousse, light and fresh on the attack with freshly cut green apple scents and a more mineral and slightly yeasty flavour. Light and refreshing and perfectly pleasant. Good aperitif material. ***

  • Lovely champagne. Nothing too special. Lemony toasty. Very pleasant. Mousse tended to subside rather too quickly.

  • Fine mousse. Delicious fresh nose of lemon zest, brioche and baking bread with a clean and well balanced palate. Medium length finish. Fantastically drinkable.

  • Clear, light, golden colour. Pronounced lemon and lime aromas, brioche, apples and kerosene, clean and light on nose. Full bodied, high acidity, spice and zest, with quite high alcohol, tropical fruit flavours, perhaps a little tart. Medium length. ***1/2
