Fantastic Washington Cabernet at its peak. Ripe black fruits that go on for minutes with a smooth powerful sweet tannic background. Pairs with anything... See previous note.

Very enjoyable, nearly mature cabernet from Gramercy. At 15 years of age, this wine has developed complexity and mellowness. The nose is more mocha, earth and cedar while the flavors are red berries, allspice, some earth and coffee. The tannins are fine and silky. While not distinguished by unique characters (such as nothing minty or no deep cigar box notes) it is a lovely, exceptionally drinkable bottle of Cab. Not going to get better, but has enough backbone to hold up for another 5-8 years.

Some Aged Gramercy Wines: What a beauty. The fruit is still so boisterous (black cherry, raspberry, juicy plums) but the nose shows all these leather, pepper, herb and spice elements as well. Tannins still going strong but they’re also smooth and velvety and the acidity maintains a tart edge. Pretty currant and plum fruits laced with black pepper, leather, cedar, coffee and stony minerals. Lovely stuff – of course, the last sip at the end of the night was the best. Long time ahead still.

Inky dark ruby with bold nose of marionberry and pine forest. Dry bold fruit and chewy tannins, grilled beef with some sour bitters, greenish blackberries. Fairly bold flavors and pairs well with grilled beef, better with food.

Christmas Day and New Year's Eve 2013: Polished and textured with juicy currants, plum and lavender. Refined tannins and smooth long finish. A clear step up from some $20-$30 Napa cabs that we sipped earlier in the day.

Big fruit flavors of dark cherry and plum, countered with decent acidity and a hint of tobacco. There is almost no oak influence to be detected. Feels a little like other fine Cabernets made by high end Syrah producers, in that the grape expresses itself with little manipulation. Very well done.

Nothing artificial about this wine. Just straight forward cab color, smell and taste. Medium to full body. Opened with cassis and hint of tobacco. Developed with time in the decanter to show a mixture of darker fruits like the cassis and black raspberry, along with red fruits like cherry. Smooth with a nice balance of acid and fine tannins that carry to a moderately long finish. Some cocoa on the backend. Not a reach to call this one outstanding.

Before saying anything else about this wine, I should mention that we opened two bottles during the Superbowl and they were consistent with one another. These vaporized in fron of our eyes. People at our house loved this wine and that is without a word from me talking it up. Decanted both two hours. Dark maroon with a clear rim. The nose showed bing cherry and some mocha and plum. Exceptional mouthfeel. Tasted and felt like a good Cabernet should. No flab, no vanilla. Black cherry and cassis with a hint of tobacco. Refreshing and wonderful with our assortment of grilled meats. Firm tannic structure and great length.

This wine has pure fruit flavors; wonderful balance with good acidity and so it does not overwhelm the palate, which makes it a great food wine. It's like a close friend that stops by to visit, stays just the right length of time while complimenting everyone else in the room, and then is out-the-door leaving you wanting more. I've had this 3-times now with consistent notes. Get it while it lasts ... I think Gramercy still has some in stock (as of 28 Dec 2010.)

Notes from day 2. Dark purple to black in color. Nose of rainer cherry, fresh cranberry sauce, currant, licorice, smoke, pencil lead, and a touch of vanilla. Palate of black cherry, currant, with a little fresh cranberry sauce present as well, vanilla, some graphite, a little baker's chocolate, with a touch of spice and smoke on the end. Long finish, great mouthfeel, and balance as the acidity keeps the finish very clean as the wine never approaches being too forward. No heat noticed either. Also really like that Greg kept the wine at 13.8% which was almost unheard of in 2007 WA Cabs, still say this simply the best Cab I have had from this vintage (including both QC big boys).93-94 Hold. 50+5+13+18+8

Between a very skilled and upcoming winemaker / producer and what I feel will be widely regarding as the best WA State vintage of the last decade (2007) we have no less than expected: a great WA State cabernet that combines both immediate sensory appeal along with food friendly sensibility of the Old World motif. I can't recall the technical specifics, but this was a wonderful cabernet.

Bottle open 2 hrs. More purple than black in color. Typical nose of black and red fruits, with a good amount of graphite, caramel, and a tad of 'shroomy funk. On the palate, it's definitely washington cab, with that cooling, refreshing acidity complimented with a great mouthfeel. Intense fruit with dry cranberry, and gripping tannins. I often complain that there just aren't that many good Washington Cabs. And, coming off 4 years of living in the Bay Area, I still believe I'm right. But, I never stop trying because I do think WA fruit has something very special to offer here. Ironically, one of my favorite Cabs from Washington is 21 Grams, a joint venture between Waters and Gramercy Cellars that is a true stunner. This Cab also, from just Gramercy Cellars, is very nice. Dark and inky, with a nose of dark chery raspberry, earth, pencil shavings and mushrooms. The palate offers up something a little different though. Much more acidity than I would have expected with the earthy / mushroom notes playing a rhythm section role to the fruit front man. Really nice grippy tannins, more so than any of the other Gramercy Cellar wines tasted tonight, with an extraordinary balance. Quite entertaining trying to pull out all the layers on this wine and I think it's one to be shared with friends who enjoy wine enough to talk about it. This is not t be wasted on the average wine drinker (or, as a good friend of mine says "I have my $10 friends, my $20 friends, my $30 friends and my $40+ friends - this will be shared with the last group).
