  • Salty grapefruit nose. Mouth is light and still slightly effervescent upon first opening. Nice lively finish with plenty of citrussy acids. Still drinking extremely well. Great QPR.

  • Sweet, tasty, but maybe a touch one-dimensional (or maybe a little shutdown). B

  • A good litlte Kabinett. I popped this to go with some crispy roasted pork belly (complete with yummy crackling) that Dad bought back from Pasar Bella. It worked really well with the food. It was a bit tight on first pour, showing little bits of petroleum and mineral on the nose, which opened up with some time into pleasant notes of white flowers and peaches. Like quite a few 2009s, the palate started out rather too big and sweet when served a bit warm, but even then you could tell that this was a wine that was nicely put together. Indeed, with some time and air and chilled to a proper temperature, it really come into balance. Still ripe and powerful for a Kabinett, but not more so than would expect from a Rheingau Kab in a warmish year, it showed sweet stone fruit streaked with citrussy lemon inflections, all held in a rather delightful balance, with a lift of juiciness on the midpalate carrying the wine into a minerally finish, with stony mineral notes lining sweet grapefruity accents. Surprisingly long at the end and very yummy, especially with the fatty pork. This was a nice little treat. I get a feeling it is really just now coming into its own though - give it a couple more years, and it will be even better.

  • Dinner with Monthly Group - Boxing Day (Kee's Place): A very neat Kabinett. It had a pretty nose of green apples and sweeter peach aromas lined with some flint and slate. It was the palate that I really liked tough, While a little on the sweet side and still quite primary, it had a brilliant balance, with lovely juicy acidity running through its green apple and other white fruited notes. There was an unusual depth and length for a Kabinett - not surprising given the vintage - but this was still beautifully poised. Nice stuff. Will get even better in a couple of years.

  • Really good again. Fresh apple and lime fruit over a mineral base with bright acidity and a fair bit of dissolved CO2 giving it a sense of vibrancy and real refreshment. Moderately sweet and all too easy to drink.

  • It too, is high in acid but has much more going on in the nose besides minerals and oil. If I tasted this from a black glass or under red lights, I might have some issues, as it presented lot of red fruit flavors

  • the nose is really smoky and minerally, backed up by white peach and lemon pie. the palate is just spectacular. zingy acid and live-wire lemon-lime. but it's also really rich. wonderful white peach, yellow pears, canteloupe flavors. the fruit and the creaminess almost remind me of really good lemon yogurt. but it's still so tangy and almost spicy. the depth and complexity of this wine are really amazing. the acid comes back on the finish like a whip and carries the wine for a long time. great minerals on the finish as well. what a phenomenal kabinett riesling, especially for the price.

  • This is good stuff at this price point ($12-$13 US) - green fruits and acid - a little bit of sweetness but not cloying.

  • Nose: Sweet. Minerals and maybe some mango. Taste: A little honeysuckle and a little lime. It's not complex enough to match the sweetness but it is still really good.

  • Another year, another lovely Leitz Kabinett. Fresh green apple and lime fruit with a rocky mineral character underneath and some herbal accents that emerge with some air. Light on its feet with bright acids, restrained sweetness and all too easy to drink.

  • showed very well. Pale and bright with a slight hint of spritz, green apples and lime, slatey mineral notes. Nice length. Moderately sweet, but no more than I find appropriate for Rheingau kabinett. Nice value ($12.75). B+
