Similar to the previous note, but more prune and fig, less leather and truffle. Just a touch more stewed and subdued, but the tannins nevertheless gave a bit of bite.

Quite mature, but wonderfully so. Raisined red fruits with figs, truffles, and old beeswax polished floors. Highly aromatic, quite haunting on the nose really. Palate still has good definition - cooked fruits, but nothing sweet or jammy, and there is actually a good lick of acid and some nice fine tannins. Alcohol isn't overpowering either, which is quite surprising given the year. In a really lovely place, particularly for the vintage.

On day 1, this wine showed characteristics of pinot-meets-syrah. Color was extremely light as well and the wine tasted very fresh. Definitely enjoyable but quite unexpected. Night and day from day 2, which is the basis for the following notes.
Nose: Anise, dried flowers, black tea, hoisin, hot stones. Palate: Raspberries and dark cherries on the attack. Smoke, root beer, tar develop on the mid-palate. Grippy, drying tannins follow on the medium, chocolatey, root beer finish.
I'm going to drink the 2004 and 2005 from my cellar for comparison, but my first instinct is that I'll be going back for more... especially at $23. Drink up!

Raisin, raisin, raisin and not in a good way. The bottles best days were way behind it.
