Very deep hue, essentially opaque and minimal browning. nice aromatics with red fruit, white pepper, heavy floral lilac like notes. The barrel component is well integrated. It hasn't developed much in terms of tertiary character or perhaps in needs more time in the glass or decanting. The mouthfeel suggests higher alcohol than the stated 13.5 %, rich texture but lacking a little in refinement. It finishes on a hot and somewhat bitter note. Retasted the following day. This wine is well past its peak and the aromatics drop off rapidly.

The previous notes of the 2000 vintage are applicable to this vintage. Interesting how this vintage shows more primary fruit, menthol and liquorice. Earthy flavours are less prominent here.

Bouteille ouverte, mais non decanter 2 heures avant. Rubis-pourpre intense, disque legerement tuile. Jambe moyenne.

Lots to like here, but it's the aroma that strikes me most. Clove, tobacco, smoke, cranberry, oak combine for a nicely complex nose. Black cherry on the front of the palate, with smoky tannins dominating the finish. Tannins are still very assertive, even at 12.5 years old, but this nevertheless drinks easily. Very enjoyable.

Finale bien.

Drinking Beautifully - great fruit and long finish - was worried because of other CT reviews but this was a great bottle (easily beat what I thought would be the star wine of the evening a 97 Poggio Rosso CCR)

Last year this wine has with any structure left. Drink now, it was smooth as can be, the cork held up nicely but be careful when taking it out. Overall, great color and smooth finish, very enjoyable wine at the peak of it's life span.

Black, black, black... Sweet, over- over- overripe fruit with no delineation, and burningly alcoholic. From this example, I very much prefer Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon on their own rather than this blend. Very little charm and absolutely no personality. A caricature of a wine.

Leather dominates, black cherry, pomegranate, no tannins left, acidity level still vibrant enough to keep up with lighter fare. Complex and well-done. I can feel that this is teetering over the edge so drink up if you have any left.

French Bakery BYO 1990's Tuscan IGT Dinner; 1/8/2008-1/10/2008 (French Bakery, 1023 Kane Concourse, Bay Harbor Islands, FL): Roberta&David's wine. An interesting/challenging first flight, which unfortunately paired 2 Sangiovese influenced wines(this and the 97 Tignanello) w a Cab Sau/Merlot blend (the Le Pupille Saffredi). In this instance, the Sangiovese's prevailed over the Saffredi. The Rocatto, my WOTF received 4 votes, and came in second to the 97 Tignanello, 5 votes. The Rocatto, which I had never known of, had sweet charming brett and Sangiovese wet earth on the nose, and evolved well in the glass. I was torn between the two wines, but ultimately voted for the Rocatto, over it's heralded flight mate the Tignanello.

Dark ruby/black colour. Aromas of black plums, mint, chocolate, blackberry, black cherry. Medium-full bodied, lush, and tasty, with notes of blackberry, blackcurrant, and black licorice. Moderate finish, with black fruit. Just a notch below my previous bottle.

Dark ruby colour. Aromas of mint, chocolate, cherry, blackberry, earth, anise, and lavender. Medium-full bodied with black fruit, spice, mint, herbs, and black plums. Moderate-long finish with black plums. Drinking great now, but will hold for several years. Was great with a grilled veal chop.

Medium-red, floral, fruity nose with hint of mint. Nice fruit; smooth, lingering finish. Needed 1.5 hrs of decanting to open up. Needs more time; still has fruit to improve.
